Not so sure.
Stetcher has probably the weakest shot on the entire team and that's saying alot considering Tanev and the twins.
He's a great skater, has an intense motor and overcomes his size with solid positional play.
That said, his career will live and die with his ability to generate offense.
I think Stetcher will always remain a sweet complimentary piece to put on the PP and to chase leads where-as Hutton has the potential to actually become a consistent top 4 guy.
Either way, i like both and am happy to have them.

I don't see stecher as a cornerstone piece but more as a guy holding onto a spot until your other D prospects develop - Redmile247
Stecher I don't think will ever be a top 2 D man.
I think he can put up 30/40 points a season when he is fully developed but I think height/weight will always go against him. Hard enough being a short forward in the NHL, let alone a short D-man. If Stecher plays 6-7 years in our top 4, then he will be an incredible signing by Benning. |

Those r under contract or resigned RFA's. So with the TDL approaching & add 2 drafts we all know whats needed. Scoring, speed as in C's & LW. Maybe Gaudette &/or Lockwood can make a case to be real NHLers.
So we come back to this TDL & offseason moves.
Hansen, Burrows, Sbisa r obvious possibles to move.
Tanev, Edler, Miller r more tricky to move.
IMO trading for prospects seems a better route to fill our lack of depth.
If we acquire picks its faith in JB to find gems which he has done fine at but they would be 1-2yrs further away from being NHL ready than getting prospects.
Trading Tanev or Edler should fetch real proven NHL talent in a big deal or top prospects.
Summary: the expansion draft is a pothole on the trading route but the saving grace is so many teams r in the hunt that trading a top asset is best now while their vaiue is highest. Tanev, Edler & Hansen fit in that hole. The others for picks/prospects makes sense if not in a bigger package. Targeting a team as a trade partner is where JB has to determine soon. |

His slap shot is weak, but I think because he picks his spot and puts a little less mustard on it to try and be more accurate. It's the same with his wrist shots, they are very weak, but I think he takes that extra second to pick his spots which is something that no other D-man does on the point.

So just checking to make sure I am following:
Brock Boeser, currently in college, is going to be first line NHL in 1.5 years from today
OJ and Brisebois are both going from Jr to NHL in the next 1.5 years
Tryamkin will fall out from top 6 in the next year and a half
Demko could potentially back up, but is Gartieg supposed to go from ECHL to possible NHL back up in a season and a half? |

Oh totally, his ability to get the puck on net is amazing, problem is they are so weak the goalie simply scoops them up, no rebounds to speak of. |

If Stecher can work on his shot the same way Bo worked on his skating, then we could have a really good PP D-man at some point!

I was not being definite just generalizing.
BB as a top 6 RW & PP.
OJ on the PP and probable top 4 D
Brisebois is harder to peg being in the Q & under the radar & more likely in the AHL.
Tryamkn is a wild card depending on who we have in 2018. He can be a gem.
Demko a back up to Marky as we currently stand is my guess.
Garteig the starter in Utica. |

If the idea is to get younger I see DD traded at 2018 TDL on expiring contract. Others will be around for 4th line in 2018-2109 season start from farm or draft picks.
As for the Vegas pothole it will deter hockey like trades. Why if Edler or Tanev get traded it's off season 2017 the earliest. That's where prospects might come our way.
For now, if JB sells best you can hope is that Burr and Sbisa get you high draft picks. Hansen multiple draft picks or a low 1st. Miller won't be traded if they can resign him. Otherwise don't see him waiving and his return would be a low draft pick in a flooded goalie market. |

My 2018 roster projection will drastically change from now til then.
Logjam on D is a good thing & why we can see trades happening maybe sooner than later or at least within the next year leading up to 2018. Our lack of scoring & F prospects is woefully thin. |

Pretty much agree with all the above but the TDL comes 1st & what might happen who knows at this juncture. I do expect a trade or 2 from us. How big or obvious will depend on other teams more so than what we want to do. After the TDL passes then yes the offseason will be most interesting & a pivotal pont for our future. |

Just changing up things from the usual TDL talk. Crazy idea. It can be bashed but it's something different never discussed or looked at.
What if FA in a development deal gets permission for setting up an expansion team in Seattle for next season. Partners up with Stadium builder and splits the Nuck's assets. This was sort of done several years ago in the NHL.
Difference now is that NHL won't compel teams to give up players in expansion draft. Though it will award 2 picks per team in top 5 of each round for both teams on lottery placement. Also, allow player contract transfers. Then NMC and NTC contracts can be assigned to new expansion team. Plus rights to players. The cap room left by the two will allow for free agent signings or deals to take on bad contracts for more picks.
Does this solve problems or creates more? |
