As much as i think the team is flawed, a few in house moves from day one could have had this team on the cusp of a playoff spot this year. Little moves like this..

This is the other area where bad contracts can hurt the team. it doesn't seem like much but when you really think about who has lost out on a spot because an overpaid vet was here..

Overpay again..... Cupboards are getting pretty light. And we have some hopes for what we have in there. We would lose them and still have needs on the team. Draft players we would get this year are 3 years away from anything to get giddy about.
Lets wash rinse repeat again. I'm tired of waiting for development to show something.

and for the 4 points, okposo has 10 more games this year, and more icetime per game

I agree this team needs D-men.
It also needs wingers that can score.
It also needs a coach whos keep is to "Grind it out"
This is more on Murray than it is on any player on the ice.
Murray made moves that destroyed this defense.

This team so desperately needs a top 2 pick to get Nico or Patrick.

They'll both be great players, but much like signing okposo last off season im not sure adding one of those guys actually solves our problem. Were the worst in shots against and most of our d-men cant skate the puck or complete a proper breakout pass. Id say unless it is a top 2 pick put it in a package and see what you can get for it (id even consider it if it was top 2 tbh).

Doesn't A take care of B here? if emptying the cupboards helped complete the core for this team would you not be for it? are any of the guys there likely to be as good as anyone we'd acquire if we did empty the cupboard?

For the record i dont think we'd have to but id be for it. You could probably have framework for a deal involving a top 4 d-man if you made this years pick available.

not sure i would want to include Guhle in that trade.. but the rest i am fine with. we don't need to keep both Ullmark and Petersen long term and girgs is a 3rd liner we have a crap ton of those

pretty bad give away in his own end last night. I think the impact of having a good to great top 4 is far greater than people realize. solves a lot of core issues and by extension makes the forwards better as well. Same isnt really true of wingers

The Sabres, meanwhile, are also in the market for a top-four defenseman. I don’t see a fit there with the Avs.
