Too many people believed the tanks would cure all our ills. That was just plain dumb. Along with the fact that experience doesn't matter

To be fair, i wonder if part of the problem was that its how they tried to spin it. They tanked and then made some big moves early on, leads people to expect a lot very quickly.

No one said that Kellyanne. You listed this as the #1 reason we weren't doing well.

I wouldn't say Eichel's 29 points in 35 games is a reason we aren't a good team

Well sure, but people have to realize that they are a business, they want our money, they and we aren't always on the same side. They are there to make money we are here to give them our money, sometimes we have to use our own brains and think for ourselves. Critical thinking is challenging but fun, in my estimation. But of course we wanted the Sabres to win so we latched on to their positive spin. But if you look at this team, it has holes and firing the coach after a year and a half is not the most prudent thing to do in my humble opinion, not yet anyway.

Or how our GM literally said it doesn't have to take a long time.

Everyone thought that the the two tanks would solve all our ills. I thought Buffalo hockey fans were supposed to be smarter than that, well the older generation was but the now generation has no patience, they want results immediately, if not sooner.

The failings of this team is not what firing Bylsma can cure. He is in the 2nd half of his 2nd year with a ton of dead weight, a porous D, weak on the wings, and even though a few believe experience doesn't matter, two of their best players are in their 2nd years and I hate to break the news but experience does matter, just listen to the rantngs of Lehner last night. Experienced teams fall back to their structure when the heat is on or they are tired, inexperienced teams try to deke their way to a loss.

I wish Sabres fans were as smart as we used to be touted as and not as reactionary.

- GilPerreault11

Murray wanted to completely rid this team of everything that had to do with the previous regime. In doing so, he got us Jack, Sam, Risto….ROR and a few others to build around. im disappointed with this season and have been looking forward to "next year" for 40 years. Murray got us some good players, but he has also made some mistakes. We got to get rid of the dead weight. We can probably assemble an entire 3rd or 4th line out of Rochester kids if we gave them sheltered minutes. we probably have 15-20 million in wasted cap space right now. if you're 25 and have 6+ years in this league, you're a veteran.
With that said, if he assembles a youthful team, Bylsma needs to quit the "chip and chase" system. It's downright stupid with Kane, Jack, Ennis and any of the fast kids we bring up from Rochester. He's playing to not lose and it's not working.

It's ok. What he says and what he does are usually different. Expect Kane to be moved for a D man

Last nights game was a team wide failure, including Lehner. Lehner and Falk turned a power play situation for Buffalo into a powerplay situation for Vancouver. 1 goal lead erased. Kane takes a bad penalty later in the first, 2-1 Vancouver. Penalties zapped any chances at momentum in the second and third. Vancouver's 4th came just as a pp expired. This game could have turned out much different.

Those penalties Lehner and Falk took on the exchange with Burrows were an organizational failure. They sent their pest to pester, he succeeded, his team suceeeded. That moment just showed what a lack of focus this team has.

I'll go find that theory of yours if you want, it ranks right up there with special teams don't matter. I didn't say experience was number #1, it was just the first thing that came to my head at the time. If you want to ask me what the number one reason is Donald Trump, I'll tell you, it's our awful D. I think that is the #1 reason we suck, #2 might be lack of experience by the three people we lean on a lot, Jack, Reinhart and Risto. D develop slower than forwards but he is fine in the offensive zone, needs to improve in the D zone, isn't a #1 in his own end..yet

Or maybe # 2 is just overall lack of talent.

lol I dunno organization may believe that his value to the team is higher than any d-man they could get via trade. Unless they're prepared to put him in a larger deal they're probably right. Im not sure what Kane gets you 1 for 1

So guys mess with the Sabres goalie and nobody responds and they get crucified, guy messes with goalie and gets dealt with and they get crucified?

Am I doing this right?

So let's say the Sabres have the Canucks hemmed in their zone. We take 10 shots, Markstrom makes a couple great saved, Canucks come down the ice, take 1 shot, and it's deflected off our defender and goes in.

That deflected shot that gives our players a minus is just as valuable to measure how the team or individual is playing than the two minutes and multiple shot attempts taken at the other end? Get out of here

- sbroads24

Ok...
u took what I said wrong, or I didn't explain it the way I meant

What I meant was,
It doesn't have any more to do with an individuals particular performance
Shots against is a TEAM stat
This isn't baseball

And u STILL haven't responded to my scenario to lmk how that would be Risto's fault...

He almost made the team LAST season out of camp, he should have made the team THIS season but Murray brought in Kulikov and some cheap vets.

Yes small sample size plus his preseason games where he showed he belonged.

If he is on the 3rd pair who is on the 2nd pair is what I am getting at.

Why can't he come in and play with McCabe on the 2nd? That leaves Bogo to play a more offensive type role on the 3rd pairing (against lesser competition mind you) and be pretty useful at it.

You're making it seem like I am playing Guhle with Risto for 30 minutes a game.

- Stripes77

Bc 99/100 times a defenseman isn't ready to jump from Juniors to 20min a night on the 2nd pair

There's no point in rushing him

And my point is...
Trade for or sign someone to play on that 2nd pair so Guhle doesn't get in over his head

I frankly don't even think he should be on the Sabres next year
He still has A LOT to learn
And I doubt he's ready for 82 games of NHL physicality

Just basic corsi, sure, you can argue that. Not the vast amount of categories that are aimed to measure individuals.

Bc most ppl are impatient & think that all young kids can come in & play an important role right away

Is he talented?
Yeah, of course I agree

I just don't think we should expect as much as most on here do
He's young
And it takes time to learn the NHL game
Both physically and mentally

The equivalent would've been putting Bailey in the top6 LAST year instead of having him learn & develop in Rochester

I will never be referred to Kellyanne again From the other day:

We are the lowest scoring blue line, while at the same time giving up the most shots.

Also, my response had nothing to do with Draisaitl and Reinhart. It was about the fact that it's irrelevant that 23 and 15 are young
- sbroads24

Scoring from D is not the primary problem from the D, playing in their own end is. You always look at scoring and never look at a players whole game and that is why much of what you write is often frivolous. By the way, a players experience or lack thereof being irrelevant is a new theory.
- GilPerreault11

We aren't going to remotely agree on this.
