I don't think it is a step up, they are all team stats. I am reading that article, and in my opinion you could replace plus/minus with Fenwick or Corsi. I am not a fan using any 3 of those stats as a barometer of a player's performance. All 3 give an underlying assessment on how well a team is performing, not what an individual brings.

In hockey it really only takes one bad player to bring a whole team's 5 on 5 play down. According to the board we have many poor players at the moment who could/would be doing this(and I agree that we have players that do that).

So +\- for goals doesn't mean much...
but when it comes to shots it does?

I think +/- is more of a 5 man unit thing than individual player stat.

I analyze numbers at work all day 5 days a week. I watch hockey to be entertained. Outside of basic stats, it doesn't matter to me.

That may be very short sighted of me, but I don't really want my entertainment to feel like my work.

You are generalizing Corsi.

There are individual corsi measurements and Fenwick measurements

There are WOWY's, which stands for with and without you, that measure the difference from when a player is on/off the ice relative to other teammates

This happens to me far too frequently. Usually when I've been fighting with one all day at work. I dream about formulas, macros, pivot tables, etc...

It's awful.

But, I'll take it over having to be outside in the elements or working in retail again.
