This is just an idea I had and never seen it actually happen, but could you see trading a player like Foligno or Girgenson to a playoff team for a 1st round pick with the agreement that they trade him back to Buffalo for a 2nd or 3rd round pick depending on where they finish in the playoffs?
This would be a true rental player and depending on where the teams finish, the team trading us a 1st may actually only dropping 10 spots in the draft instead of losing a pick totally. Would really only work with an RFA or player under contract, but I think it would be worth a try. |

So like this?
To Buffalo:
1st and Foligno/Girgensons next season
To team X:
2nd/3rd and Foligno/Girgensons for 2 - 3 months
Seems like a high price to pay for the services of a 3rd liner for 3 months (at the most) and a 2nd round pick.... |

Well, if he's right and you're only dropping out of the bottom of the first round and into the top of the 2d, it's not really all that much.
It's a pretty interesting idea. Don't know if it's legal. |

Kulikov, bogosian and franson are all bad hockey players. How murray thought kulikov at 3.5 mill more was better then pysyk is beyond me
- Buffalo39
kulikov and franson will be gone
find a way to trade bogo and gorges, even if it's a red wing type deal with yotes for bogo

Habs and boston firing their coach is the worst thing to happen to our NEGATIVE buff media.. Two teams that have been contenders for numerous years fire their coach each with term. Both those teams are in a completely different situation than we are. We have some warts but firing the coach after a year an a half is absurd considering the team was hurt for the first half of the season. Looking at our roster we are not a contender. But if we can stay in the hunt until late march/ april i consider that a success given the first half. |

Yeah if Buffalo is picking 5th in the second round and team X's 1st round pick is 25-30 they are not dropping much. |

Ya i guess so....you'd have to get the team in question to get over the fact that they are "trading away a 1st round pick"

sabres roster is not that bad
IMO it's still more coaching
kulikov, bogo, franson and gorges should be serviceable for the bottom 4 for an average nhl coach |

Love the Alzner idea but shat at 6.5+ plus scares me. Outside the powerplay you need a consistant D corps too make him worth the money and i dont know if we have that |

As far as the Leafs go. Their fans seemed impressed . Sabres were not the team they expected last game . |

Is Lehner a #1 goalie? If yes, what do we re-sign him at?
I say "yes" to the 1st question and a bridge contract @ $3.25 million/year for 2 years each. |

From the last blog: yuck, wouldn't pay fair value for him let alone FA overpayment
They're going to have to overpay via trade, there's just no other way

i'm with pham in believing that it's best to let the entire season play out before making that determination |

not really, the only one of these guys who looks serviceable regularly is franson and thats because hes actually playing to his role (bottom pair). Kuli, bogo and gorgers are all playing one pair too high. |
