Columbus the last few years has been kind of interesting, but a lot of their success really does depend on their goalie playing well.
Bobrovsky won a Vezina, got injured and missed time on and off quite a bit the next few years and finally looks to be back to his normal self this year.
I think this is a good example of the players having confidence in the guy who's back there. The goalie himself isn't actually any different, but the results have been very different. - HonkFortheGoose

Scoring an extra goal a game helps the W column. - stashu
And we didn't have that option earlier in the season. Good to great teams have the luxury of a few seasons together and with the same coach. We are still babies in all of it.
I think this had quite a bit to do with it, as we weren't allowing a lot of goals, but were barely scoring 1 per game it seemed. Goalies don't get a lot of wins that way, but their stats don't look too bad otherwise. - HonkFortheGoose
1.95 g/gm at the end of the month...at one point they averaged 1.6 g/gm over a long stretch

Slightly old data now, since it's from 46 total games, but here's a tidbit from a big post I made (since it relates):
First 21 games, without Eichel
7-9-5
38 goals for (1.81 per game) 50 goals against (2.38 per game)
25 games since Eichel's return
12-9-4
71 goals for (2.84 per game)
73 goals against (2.92 per game)
I need to update this...maybe during the "bye week" - stashu
it does seem that Byslma opened things up more when Eichel came back. And there was definitely a stretch of games in there too where it seemed like the goalies (both Lehner and Nilsson) could have been better.
Ever since Lehner got pulled in the TO game a few weeks back, he's looked like a completely different guy. Not sure what's changed, but he's been one of our best players over the past couple weeks.

Yeah, a lot of "fluky" goals I'd say more than "DAMMIT LEHNER" type goals - deflections, odd bounces, PP goals, etc

he had the horses to open things up with Eichel back...kane was playing better as well and they helped make the team faster

He seems to be much more in tune with how the games are going since that Leafs game when he got pulled. Everything about his game seems so much more calculated and precise.
There have definitely been some not so great numbers for him since that game, but they're the games where the rest of the team seemed to take the night off. (Montreal, Anaheim, Vancouver).

Bailey seems to be making some noise in the top 6 for us now. I'd like him to get on the scoresheet a bit more than he has, but he's definitely making an impact out there.
Since I think this got lost in the shuffle, I'm going to repost it...
Here's an interesting stat...
Lehner has faced 5 more shots over the course of this year than Bobrovsky has, yet has played in 6 fewer games. (1282-1277) He's also only allowed 1 more goal (97-96). However, he has 15 less wins.
Pretty crazy when you look at it that way. - HonkFortheGoose
yup
if anyone thinks lehner is signing for 3 to 3.25 mil
they are crazy
kid is playing like a top 10 goalie and will get 4 or more per

He needs some adjustment time before he can start regularly producing is all. It's obvious his hands/hockey IQ are lacking a bit (couple of drop passes to no one/couple of giveaways in our end), but that chip play he made past Karlsson last night was impressive as was his goal. I'm pleasantly surprised as well. Good call.
I'd like to be a better hockey team than a team that is ok with a scoreless 4th line center. - Khmylev
Just because I said I don't understand the Grant hate doesn't mean I don't want to see the team win, who doesn't want their team to do well, just making a point that ppl on here really seem to hate a fourth line guy who does pretty much what you would expect out of a fourth line centre.

Winning one extra game a month puts us in the playoffs. - Der Kaiser
the problem is the same thing could be said about last year. I was hoping to see a bit more improvement this year.
What's frustrated me this year, is the overall lack of consistency in effort from one game to the next. That shouldn't be an issue, yet has been a recurring theme all season.

Good call. Reason every win is important .
Goals need to be scored..
More than the other team.
Team with the most goals wins.
Final score is remembered , not how it was played. Analytic geniuses out there need to watch the game and stop with dissecting everything about the game. takes the fun out of it.
