Several times this year the NHL has had opportunities to send a real message and each time they've gone soft. But again if it was a player from a team that wasn't an original six with pull with the league they might have gone an extra game or two.

Unfortunately it's going to take a player not being able to walk again for them to get serious about this crap.

The 10 games is automatic. It's written in the rule book. The department of "player safety" doesn't even get given that, it does to the hockey operations department.

The department of again "player safety" doesn't have a black and white rule book to follow.

I was literally talking to a ref buddy 5 mins ago and we said the same thing. Yes Vermette is a moron but Nyquist should be suspended longer because of the risk involved there.

Unless a former ref is in charge of thay department expect the same sadly.

Stafford is actually probably the 2nd worst piece in that entire deal ahead of Kasdork. Including Bogo
