Our Defense futures look terrible.
Fedun waived yesterday, Franson gone with deadline or summer, bogos not panning out like we thought, McCabe not Top 4 NHL caliber, Kulikov gone at deadline, Deslsuries terrible, Gorges will get traded.
We should shop Kane while he has value.

He would sign with us.
We gave Meyers and Zadorov to bulk up our forwards and it's only a matter of time before Kane turns back into an ass-clown. With 3-4 months on his hands this summer
he will do something very stupid and diminish all of his value via trade.

I'd rather try and get a long term guy if we are going to trade him. Shattenkirk might not sign |

Your entire post was about the future.
Trading away the best asset that could be moved for blueline help for a defenseman that's going to be a UFA is awful asset managing.
You say he would sign just like most of us thought Vesey would sign here and see how well that turned out. |

Even if he would sign I wouldn't make that trade. I would wait to get Shattenkirk in the off season and not give up assets.
If I'm moving Kane I'm moving him for a younger d than Shattenkirk anyway |

if there was ever a time for a 7 year deal on a d man, it's him IMO |

If Murray can get a Top 2 D-man for Kane right now, I say do it. One major caveat - there has to be significant term left on the contract. |

I have no problem signing him in the off season to a 7 year deal but I'm not trading Kane for him without a signed extension.

Agreed.
I know it's only a bad rumour but I think the Sabres would be a much better team next year if the following occurred:
Trade Nylander, Kane and 1st for Domi, Duclair, Chicklet & Shatty (signed in the off-season). We can't bring Shatty in unless we unload some meaty salaries. Kane's would be one of them plus hopefully Murray can get Vegas to take one of Moulson, Ennis, Bogo or Gorges.

Who ever rents Shattenkirk at the deadline will sign him long term. May not be us but
My main point is Kane will only have value right now while he is red hot and not in the news for doing something stupid. The window to get A good return on him is very small. If we get a good offer, top 2 D-man or equal take it. |

You might be surprised. It is a buyers market going into the deadline. There are several teams like the leafs and Canadians under huge pressure to make a push in the playoffs and a red hot scorer like Kane will bring in surprising offers. I know GMTM will be listening and have some tough decisions to make this deadline |

Sure, but a playoff team wouldn't trade an active top 2 D man during a run.
Only viable deadline option seems to be the Ducks. They have legit D prospects they could move that would be interesting |

Why not ? He would be part of the center of attention on this team. Besides Jack and RoR and Lehner who else does he have to compete with ? Easy livin as long as he keeps doing what he's doing . |

He's playing his best hockey in 5 years and is playing with a franchise center. Why would he want to leave? |

That Arizona rumor is bonkers. We would have just drafted Chychrun - sbroads24
Several guys have posted this and (for the sake of argument) this seems like poor logic to me. They can only draft one guy. They surely liked lots of players. Also, they have the advantage of seeing the D play for 60+ games now. |
