Gorges in a #6/7 role i can handle by the end of the year then move on
Kuilkov is already gone by the deadline imo.
Not saying bogo is bad when healthy. Point is ditching bogos cap hit instead of 22 or 28
could be a blessing considering he plays 55 games a year - yen6d1
I think the team in general and Bogo in particular would be so much better off if we played an aggressive forechecking style. I had hoped that we would be learning about a new coach today but apparently that isn't the case (yet).

Probably because Brickley was at Sabres dev camp last summer. I like our chances in signing him. - mhp
Agreed, we are a good, not great, offensive team but a terrible defensive team. We have some good young offensive talent in the pipeline so trading not to solidify our D makes sense. We lost 2 of our best D prospects to get ROR and Kane. Bogos had not panned out. Gorges has not either. Let's make a splash and get some friggin D and some PK specialists. Dump the dead weight

Coach isn't the main issue imo injuries and inconsistent play from our top players.
But even with that, the fact we are still playing meaningful games given the injurys we've had is impressive. |

Very good month, regardless of last night. The Sabres play the Coyotes and Aves coming out of the break which gives us a great chance to get 4 games over .500. Regardless of what other teams do this week, I'm still very much of the mindset that playoffs are reasonable. Even if this team finishes 5 wins above .500 and misses the playoffs, that's progress. The fact that we're in the playoff conversation is progress. Rest up and regroup and hopefully we're not sellers - jcragcrumple
Playoffs? Thats not very realistic...in fact, its borderline delusional.its easy to look at the standings and say youre only 3 points back of the last wildcard spot...but you fail to realize the Sabres have played 2 extra games. Its more realistic that tampa Bay, while being 4 points behind , have a better shot because they have equal games played withToronto.
Even more realistic ( and likely) is a last placed finish in the East. Carolina is 6 points back but they have played a ridiculous 5 games less.
Also, this "progress" you speak of is skewed. You can sugar coat it all you want with all those loser points, but your team has 26 wins and 34 losses. Thats a long freaking way from .500 champ.
Having said all that your team is on the right track. You only need about 3-4 key players to round out the roster, and whatever time is needed to develop those players and you'll be in a better spot in the standings. It would be nice to have some of that high end ' Murrency' now , but you should have at least one if not 2 drafts where you pick early so taht helps.

Agree 100%
We will be a 500 non playoff team again this year. Eichel had a marginally better year
Due to personal growth and maturity of his game. Kane better. End of season story.

@hsimon62 From Corsica: 5-on-5 with Eichel on ice, Sabres are +4 drawing penalties. Reinhart is +24. Gionta is -21.
Interesting stat. - sbroads24
Has Gionta played with Eichel enough for that stat to be true?
Doesn't sound correct to me |

Can we all please stop with the bottom 6 reference as a need?
That is not how the game is played anymore.
The teams more top 9 forward talent overall, and needs to have the ability to roll 4 lines to truly be dangerous.
Depth down the middle and talent on all 4 lines, but at least the top 3 lines, is the key to playoff success.
That and the obvious need to upgrade the defense. |

team only scored 1 goal with less than 5 seconds in the period
upgrades need to be made on the top 9 as well as bringing in 2 d men
or a coaching upgrade |

We've had nearly the most game man lost to injury in the league to almost all top 6 or top 4 players.
Kanes been great but after missing a month and 11 games of no production.
We're still in the right direction. Down this final stretch we need to see 15, 23, 90, 55 take it to another level. If they dont ill give you the blah

Malarkey. Blackhawks have depth, but rely on 2 lines to do the scoring. Ditto the Kings, and the Bruins going back a bit.
Pitts had 3 scoring lines ,win the Cup and dummies coast to coast think you have to build exactly the way the previous cup winner did to have success? Stupid.
You can win with whatever proven system you want provided you have the talent and to a man buy in, and play said system better than anyone else. There never has been and never will be one and only one way to win in any era of the NHL. Talk about lazy, unimaginative copy-cat thinking. |

we are 6 points out of 28th
seeing how the team needs 1 more impact player up front, and 2 on the back end
it would be a good time to start moving rentals now IMO |

i think most of us had them predicted as a bubble team at the beginning of the year.
Through a lot they're still there and now we know whats holding the team back... Defense..
