if those forwards were rated as 1st rounders & the defensemen were "reaches" then I'd have been totally ok with it

Yeah but at the time (2010-2013 drafts there were a butload of defenders being picked up and looked like there would be a surplus. Who knew so many would turn out like luke Schenn and there would be so few Duncan Keiths drafted in the later rounds.

Besides..draft BPA, collect assets and when you have a surplus you can afford to trade for need.

Trends change by the years.. was we need a big team like the kings to win...no we need a fast team like the pens to win.

If D were so valuable back then, every team wouldve drafted those players. Hindsight 20/20 EVERY team misses on picks it's part of the draft. Win some lose some.
