Well my scenario still has Nelson & Fedun there...
so do u think the others mentioned are better than Weber?
I'd say no.
But regardless on that particular player...
we need to upgrade defense throughout the ENTIRE organization
It's been virtually ignored imo for WAY too long - jdfitz77
I would disagree with this. We have made moves for upgrades at every level of the D in nearly every year.
We got Gorges, Bogo, Nelson, Ruhwedel, Kulikov, Fedun and Falk and used 3 of our top 4 picks in 2015 on D.
It's just a difficult position to fill.
EDIT: Maybe just difficult for GMTM. |

Im with Fitz on this one - it's not a tough decision and the answer is "no."
IMO - Der Kaiser
I just think we are better off keeping Kane
Don't wanna do a Hall for Larson type deal with him
We should (hopefully) be able to take advantage of a couple teams,
Much like NYI did to get Leddy & Boychuk to begin with
If we can get 2 guys like that for our 2nd pair...
keep McCabe & Risto together, and do Kulikov & Bogo 3rd pair...
now we have the makings of a really solid defense
And we won't have to rush Guhle |

Yeah... I wouldn't trade Kane for Leddy straight up
Let alone throw in Fasching
BRUTAL TRADE
Leddy is a #3 (at best) on a contender
And being an offensive focused defenseman,
Not a good fit for Risto's partner - jdfitz77

Kane is here, Kane is healthy, Kane is producing. All the things working in his favor.
One question - Are we good enough? |

Disagree
Nelson & Ruhwedel were college free agents. Decent talents who had a chance to be something, but basically just lotto tickets we hoped would work out
Those other guys were brought in as replacements,
Not significant upgrades
We have been picking mediocre forwards when we should've been choosing defensemen in the draft for YEARS
Just look at the NHL quality defensive prospects we have in our system...
Guhle, Borgen, Fitz...
That's it! And that's a freaking JOKE
And I'm sure u won't argue that you're happy with our defense this year...
We need to take MAJOR steps
Maybe "ignore" was too strong of a word...
but we've been doing the bare minimum for way too long

My opinion, obviously
But I'll play along
On Chicago for example...
who let him go bc they chose others...
he'd actually be #4 imo behind Keith, Seabrook & (underrated) Hjarlmsson

If you're using that question as a basis for whether or not to trade Kane...
shouldn't we trade everyone then?
Kane isn't the problem |

Yes, because he's the blatantly obvious choice to move for a D man.
He's going to be a pending UFA, we already have money and future money locked up in wingers, and he's never scored goals at this pace before.
If the shoe was on the other foot, and Okposo was a pending UFA next year, I'd put him in that category |

This...
Instead of moving some guys that could have gotten us something of value before they got hurt (Ennis, Girgensons) we want to move the guy that is literally carrying the 5 on 5 scoring for this team.
A stat that the fancy stat guys says are the most important...
We have a good PP a bad PK and a blah 5 on 5 scoring rate so move the guy that is doing most of the 5 on 5 scoring...exactly how does that make this team better?
If you are trying to get better on the blue line there are a bunch of teams that are going to lose good defensemen for nothing at the expansion draft. Those are the teams you make a trade with to help the blue line as you will get a good player on a cheaper than normal value deal because of the circumstances.
Then make a deal with Vegas to have them take Moulson. |

I think if Kane says he wants to test the market he is the prime candidate...but we don't know that and have time to figure it out. Question: would you say the same if you knew he'd resign for 5.5-6M over the summer? |

If Kane will re-sign for $6m per a season (or less) I would keep him.

15-16 - 13 5 on 5 goals. Good for 74th
14-15 - Had 5 in 37 games, If he played all and had 10, he would have been 141st
13-14 had 14 5 on 5 goals- good for 70th
12-13 Lockout year, but had 14 anyways - good for 9th
11-12- Had 20 5 on 5 goals - good for 23rd
Overall he's a good 5 on 5 scorer. But besides 1 other year he hasn't come close to this type of pace, and that was a shortened lock out year.

So even when he isn't on this insane run he is still good on 5 on 5...something this team clearly needs.
Again I get he is the most attractive piece that can be moved, but just because he can be move is it wise to actually move him?
I gave my way of getting good blue line help.
Poach a team before the expansion draft.
Also if you could somehow move Gorges and get Vegas to take Moulson you could offer a $7.5mil per deal to Shattenkirk as well...
I just see Kane as someone that has found his stride with this team and if he wants to commit to staying long term you should keep him.
Of course if he doesn't want to then sell while his value is high. Murray and Kane can't talk contract but they can talk future plans. Murray would have to have a pretty solid idea what Kane is looking for long term. |

I've been banging this drum for years: The NHL should cut the final 12 games from the schedule and make the season 70 games long. My argument is that the longer time between games allotted to recovering from injuries or avoiding fatigue would make up for the "lack of scoring" they would claim from losing out on 12 games.
NO ONE is ever going to even get close to 92 goals in a season anyway, yet I would argue that 12 less games on the schedule, equaling more time to travel and a less condensed schedule would actually allow for more goal scoring since players have more rest, a longer recovery period from "day-to-day" injuries, would be less rushed to return from injury and thus have more anticipation for games.
Maybe I'm completely wrong but prorate the lockout season for any number of players and the numbers are looking sexy. |
