I've been banging this drum for years: The NHL should cut the final 12 games from the schedule and make the season 70 games long. My argument is that the longer time between games allotted to recovering from injuries or avoiding fatigue would make up for the "lack of scoring" they would claim from losing out on 12 games.
NO ONE is ever going to even get close to 92 goals in a season anyway, yet I would argue that 12 less games on the schedule, equaling more time to travel and a less condensed schedule would actually allow for more goal scoring since players have more rest, a longer recovery period from "day-to-day" injuries, would be less rushed to return from injury and thus have more anticipation for games.
Maybe I'm completely wrong but prorate the lockout season for any number of players and the numbers are looking sexy. - BeadyEyedDouche
I am sure the Leaf fans would get behind that idea...but I am pretty sure if that season was 70 games they would have missed out on the playoffs anyway! |

So even when he isn't on this insane run he is still good on 5 on 5...something this team clearly needs.
Again I get he is the most attractive piece that can be moved, but just because he can be move is it wise to actually move him?
I gave my way of getting good blue line help.
Poach a team before the expansion draft.
Also if you could somehow move Gorges and get Vegas to take Moulson you could offer a $7.5mil per deal to Shattenkirk as well...
I just see Kane as someone that has found his stride with this team and if he wants to commit to staying long term you should keep him.
Of course if he doesn't want to then sell while his value is high. Murray and Kane can't talk contract but they can talk future plans. Murray would have to have a pretty solid idea what Kane is looking for long term. - Stripes77
It's not that I wouldn't love this scenario, it's just super unrealistic |

I think the Sabres in 05-06 would have loved to have a Josh Gorges type veteran to fall back on...
I think there is a playoff team out there that would take him.
You can make a hockey trade with Vegas. I don't see it happening but it is feasible.
The Shattenkirk thing well that to me is the longest shot in my scenario. |

For example, prorate Ovechkin's lockout year and his Gpg:
66.6%
Proof that he's Satan. And uses black magic to score.
But was on pace for just under 50 goals over 70 games. Throw in a few hat-tricks or 2 goal games, he hits 50 easy.
Plus. 66.6%
St. Louis won the Art Ross, he would have hit about 90pts in 70gp. |

I was pondering earlier, his buyout would cost 1.3 mil for two years. If we were to retain 1.3 mil we might maybe get a taker for him at 2.6 million for one year |

For Gorges I think if they retained $1 million they could get a 3rd and an okay prospect for Rochester for him. |

What the hell is the point of Tilted Kilt? Bunch of hot young waitresses wearing skimpy clothes serving poopty food?

And I think as a whole they will get better in that area when the blue line is much better.
Again, this isn't even remotely about Kane not fitting or not playing well. He absolutely is. I just think it makes sense at this point. |

Kane is here, Kane is healthy, Kane is producing. All the things working in his favor.
One question - Are we good enough? - sbroads24
The better question is: where would we be without him ? |

Adding a defensemen no matter how good isn't going to be much of an increase if you take away Kane IMO. |

I think if Kane says he wants to test the market he is the prime candidate...but we don't know that and have time to figure it out. Question: would you say the same if you knew he'd resign for 5.5-6M over the summer? - RhinoFan
I bet GMTM knows this already. |

Yes, because he's the blatantly obvious choice to move for a D man.
He's going to be a pending UFA, we already have money and future money locked up in wingers, and he's never scored goals at this pace before.
If the shoe was on the other foot, and Okposo was a pending UFA next year, I'd put him in that category - sbroads24
That line of reasoning is fair, BUT...
trading for top defensemen seems almost impossible
so moving Kane should be an absolute last resort imo
What I'd like to see is do us make a couple trades like NYI did when they got Leddy & Boychuk... they didn't have to give up their "Kane" (Okposo?)
I think Murray should be focusing on taking advantage of teams that are in a rough spot bc of the expansion draft
Get us a version of Leddy & Boychuk to play behind McCabe & Risto
Re-sign Kulikov (if the price is right) & play him with Bogo as the 3rd pair
That would have the potential to be a really good defense for us
And it lets Guhle take his time & bring him up slowly for injury call-ups until he's definitely ready
Just my opinion though |

We were 5-4-2 without him to start, unless you count the MTL game he got hurt in and we were 5-5-2.
That's without Eichel too.

This isn't a legit NHL top pairing though. At all. We need a top guy ridiculously bad.
