I would have said Reinhart, but he's going to be better than Eichel so.... I guess trade Eichel?
- sbroads24

But Reinhart is white.

This isn't a legit NHL top pairing though. At all. We need a top guy ridiculously bad.
- sbroads24

But do u think Kane gets us that?

Let's say Kane gets us Lindholm (or someone similar)
Which I doubt, but let's just go with it...

"Lindholm"-Risto
McCabe-trade/ufa
Kulikov-Bogosian
*subtract Kane from the forwards

OR

McCabe-Risto
"Leddy" - "Boychuk" (or similar types we get at a good rate)
Kulikov- Bogosian
*keep Kane

It's a decent argument to have I guess
I just don't know if that's possible

And I believe to get a "top pair" guy, it's costing us A LOT

But I think we can get 2 guys that are solid 2nd pair types for nothing more than picks & prospects

Replacing Kane's scoring isn't gonna be easy
I do like Bailey & Baptiste & (eventually) Nylander...
but none of our call-ups have scored much at all this year
It's gonna take them time to be consistent offensive contributors

Who are these guys hypothetically going to be?

The Islanders got lucky no one knew how good Leddy was

There's a good number of teams who are in trouble bc of the expansion draft

But if I just had to come up with a couple names...
how about Manson from the Ducks
and Brodin from Minny

It's hard for me to speculate who teams would move for a decent cost
But I do think there's moves to be made

At the very least...
that should be what we explore first

I understand your point, but if you are Minny or Anaheim, are you taking a 2nd round pick for them, or Nick Baptiste? Never

Hawks :who's going to replace Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd, Brandon Saad etc

Leafs : who's going to replace Phil Kessel?

Islanders: who's going to replace Matt Moulson, PA parenteau

Boston: who's going to replace Loui Eriksson

Winnipeg Jets: who's going to replace Evander Kane

Anaheim Ducks :who's going to replace Bobby Ryan

San Jose Sharks: who's going to replace D
Heatley

Columbus Blue Jackets : who's going to replace jakub voracek and Jeff Carter

You can replace Wingers but you can't replace centers those are hard to find

- GERBE!!!75PTS

You get the one I bolded. What have the others done? Precisely Richard. And the only other two who came close had Patrick Marleau, and I think Cheechoo was going off around that time as well. And Corey Perry. And the Jets have Laine just to answer that one.

After the season when the clock is ticking, probably yes. If they weren't guaranteed to lose a player, maybe not, but still they would lose a good player even if Vegas only had to pick, say 23 players.

Idk about that...
there aren't gonna be as many buyers as u might think
How many teams are in position to be able to add defensemen,
AND have an open slot to protect them?

We have the flexibility that many other teams don't

Also...
what "true top pair" guy do u think a team would move?
Just doesn't seem like that happens...

Leddy, Ekholm, Ellis are all decent options

Believe it or not, Ek's blog today makes a great point regarding Vegas.

The trade deadline is meaningless for them. They can already do trades if they want to, and the trade deadline doesn't mean you can't do trades, it only means the player you acquire can't play in the playoffs. Vegas won't be in the playoffs, anyway.

So expect to see "protection" oriented trades with Vegas all through the season, right up to the draft.

Did they change it? I read it was only the month before expansion.

More than you'd think. Teams are always looking for good defensemen.

Let's say they protect 4 defensemen...
Bieksa (nmc), Vatanen, Lindholm, Fowler

I'm guessing they won't wanna lose him for nothing
And he's just a stay-at-home type, not offensive at all
So maybe he does go for a 2nd?
Or add another pick, mid level prospect (Cornel?) as well

I'm obviously just guessing
But quite a few teams will be facing a similar scenario

Fasching & Carrier are guys I'd move in a heartbeat
Foligno, Larsson, Baptiste, Estephan...
and we should have plenty of 2s & 3s as well

Of course they are...
but how many have only TWO guys that they currently want to protect?

They need to have that open slot...
Otherwise trading for a guy means they have to leave someone else unprotected, and that wouldn't make sense

I mean we should never call them "fat people " pleasantly plump idk

Half the people would get my respect if they stayed at the gym but they usually just last a month and give up

- GERBE!!!75PTS

How do you know? Maybe they got skinny. That is, after all, the point of working out. And now they're fellow skinny bumholes now, just like you.

There are trades that will be made to ensure guys like Manson/Brodin etc are protected. They won't be trading young D men for pennies

We would be looking at guys like Bogo for a 2nd or 3rd rounder if we wanted to just grab someone.

But they all could be. It won't be possible to go out and get a Muzzin, you've gotta get someone who has a good chance to be one given a bigger role

I really like the idea of Manson. Especially if we can rid ourselves of Bogo, he fills the right side nicely

Leddy yes, I could see argument of Ellis and Ekholm becase they play behind a stacked defense
