Thing is Buffalo is not going to get back what we traded for Kane. (A Top 4 Defenseman right now) BUT! Buffalo can get 1 maybe 2 real strong young pieces one could become a top 4 defenseman. Let's just say the Ducks were talking to Buffalo about Kane and the main piece was Brandon Montour. Montour has the potential to become a top 4 D, but is not right now. Sabres get value out of that trade. The Sabres do not need to get Fowler for example to get Value.
A package that could work is Montour and a 1st for Kane. I know people on these forums dont want that to happen, BUT your voice does not matter. Only the 2 GMs making the trade matter. - danwest58
May not need, but Anaheim is a budget team. Fowler would most definitely have to come back in a trade for Kane. |

Name the top 4 defensemen that we'll be signing, im listening - Acup2buff
I've really like what Kris Russell has brought to the Oilers. Very under-rated signing. He's excellent at puck retrievals and getting the puck up and out of the zone.
Karl Alzner is another one I would look at. Trevor Daley. Matt Hunwick. Brendan Smith.
I'd even look at bringing Kulikov back. He's looked much better since healthy.
We got Risto and McCabe locked in to our top 4. Guehle has the potential to be thrown in there as well. I think our problem comes from the lack of speed guys like Gorges, Franson, and Falk bring. You need to have quicker d than we've had out here. Even Bogo, he's fast, but not quick and gets hemmed in his own end a lot. I really like Fedun, and think he's a servicable third-pairing guy. |

Considering he's under contract for next year I'd worry about what to do with him next season. His contract isn't out of line and the Sabers need the offense. They're currently 25th in goals per game. They certainly don't need more picks and while they could use some defensive help it would seem to open up a big hole for the offense.
If he's producing he's probably pretty happy in Buffalo and they can try to sign or trade him next year before the deadline. |

"Do NHL teams ever actually "Sell High?" In other words do players who are viewed as question marks get dealt when they are playing their best hockey? And despite the fact we talk about this all the time, I can't honestly remember one instance when a player, like Kane, has been "sold high." Or perhaps I should say, "Sold at his perceived highest value."

If they are trying to make the playoffs, why would they move him? Only way a team takes him is if they get him for cheap I would think. Buffalo should just keep chugging along.
Agreed, if he's outpacing legit superstars then why would you trade him? If he's a richard, then don't resign him. Flip him at the deadline that year if he's still playing at this pace. |

I felling like im beating a dead horse but we are one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. If we ever want to be serious contenders we need to solidify our defense. We traded away 2 of our best D prospects to solidify our offense (Meyers/Zadorov for ROR/Kane)
I would not reverse either trade and I don't know that trading Kane at the deadline the right move but I fear his maturity and success are short term.
Trade the dead weight (Franson, Kulikov, Gionta, maybe Moulson might have to retain salary) at the deadline for picks and start drafting defensemen.
I hope Guhle pans out because the rest minus Risto are not good. |

Is there any real interest in Pleckanec or Desharnais? Is it reasonable to assume that the Habs will not be able to bring in any meaningful pieces (top 6 forward) without doing so? |
