They move him next year as a rental and they will get a fraction of the return they would now - obie
Maybe, but people overpay for rentals and if he's productive next year keep him.

I felling like im beating a dead horse but we are one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. If we ever want to be serious contenders we need to solidify our defense. We traded away 2 of our best D prospects to solidify our offense (Meyers/Zadorov for ROR/Kane)
I would not reverse either trade and I don't know that trading Kane at the deadline the right move but I fear his maturity and success are short term.
Trade the dead weight (Franson, Kulikov, Gionta, maybe Moulson might have to retain salary) at the deadline for picks and start drafting defensemen.
I hope Guhle pans out because the rest minus Risto are not good. - lulags
I don't know your team that well but considering you are 25th in goals for per game and 14th in goals against why do you think the D is so much worse then the O?

its the d. we cant retrieve the puck and we have no transition. we give up 40 shots a game and try to force the other team into low percentage shots. our 5v5 is pretty bad, we rely an awful lot on the power play to bail us out. theres no stretch passes and odd man rushes only happen when the other team puts it on the rug. |

If at all histiry tells us G.M.'S usually don't move a player like this until his last year of his contract. g.m.'s want to see how this player performs on top of getting a clearer picture of who they want to protect innthe expansion draft.
The measuring stick will be year over year, which in Evanders case is Dec 3 2016 - dec 3 2017. At that time we can add up the points totals and Kane projects to be a 50 - 60 goal scorer with 25 helpers. Trading Kane at this point would be stupid unless you got an offer that blows you away. Any 1st rd pick that comes back should be in the 2018 or 2019 draft as this years stock lacks the talent of previous drafts.
This last year of his contract also gives G.M.T.M. time to negotiate. It's then that the picture becomes clearer on whether or not he can be rsigned. Hopefully he can be resigned. I think if year over year he hits those projected numbers his next contract should be in the 6 - 8 million a year, a great contract for a 50 - 60 goal scorer.
As far as the Oilers go it wasn't a couple small tweaks that makde them a better team, it's a couple words that make the Oilers contenders - Connor Mc David. Without McDavid Edmonton would be wallowing at the bottom of the league standings, |

Another year like this one and you're looking at 6-7 years @ 6-7 million, is that something you're prepared to invest in Evander Kane? |

Hey Ek,
How about taking questions from the chatroll during the show? The blog questions is great, but this would also be great show as well. Keep up the great work. |

Not a quick fix but sounds like time to start drafting defenders. Good Luck. |

Um, no... I certainly understand why no one would be excited to drop that kind of commitment on Evander Kane. At the same time if he becomes a free agent someone will certainly overpay...
OK, I'm convinced. Trade him now! |

I believe they are 10th in goals since Jack "ECHL" returned from injury... Someone did the research on that in one of our blogs but I'm too lazy to look for it. |

Since Eichel has returned we are scoring at a pace that would put us in the top10 league wide in scoring

Since Eichel came back we are top 10 in GPG, our defense is horrendous.
