You've drafted in the top 10 since like 2008 and got awarded the best player since Crosby on top of it...you should have a dynasty by now. If Nurse, Paajarvi and Yak are passed on for the better available players you probably have that today.

1st rounders run this league. Yeah you need a supporting cast, but if you had the core in place that would have been easier to answer. Drafting guys like Yak was exactly your problem. Personally I think if you take out Nurse, Yak and Paajarvi, add in Risto (next pick), Ryan Ellis (next pick) and any of Galchenyuk, Reilly or Lindholm (all top 5)...you may not have 3 cups by now, but you'd be knocking at the door every year.

And there's a big difference between not drafting the best player and drafting a dud. Reinhart will be fine as a top6 winger for a long time even if Leon is the better player (jury is still out), Yak will probably be considered the biggest bust of the past 20 years. You can't have repeated bad 1st round picks in a short span...you had, what, 3 in 5 years. You can get the best the 3rd round has to offer...won't save you from that.

Edit: Drafting 10 great players over 10 years would fill more than half your starting lineup. So while it isn't everything, it would have certainly helped a LOT.

Good God man.
Drafting that high for that long?! The results should be much better a while ago.
There is more than round as well, some of those seconds should hit as well..
Say 25% of them when they are pick 31 - 35... that equates to 14 high level players over 10 years...plus a couple of UFA signings, and there is your team.
Holy crap it isn't that difficult.

Enjoy your team, it is about 3 years late however..
