1st rounders run this league. Yeah you need a supporting cast, but if you had the core in place that would have been easier to answer. Drafting guys like Yak was exactly your problem. Personally I think if you take out Nurse, Yak and Paajarvi, add in Risto (next pick), Ryan Ellis (next pick) and any of Galchenyuk, Reilly or Lindholm (all top 5)...you may not have 3 cups by now, but you'd be knocking at the door every year.

And there's a big difference between not drafting the best player and drafting a dud. Reinhart will be fine as a top6 winger for a long time even if Leon is the better player (jury is still out), Yak will probably be considered the biggest bust of the past 20 years. You can't have repeated bad 1st round picks in a short span...you had, what, 3 in 5 years. You can get the best the 3rd round has to offer...won't save you from that.

Edit: Drafting 10 great players over 10 years would fill more than half your starting lineup. So while it isn't everything, it would have certainly helped a LOT.

Nurse is a good young D man....not as good as Risto but he's been good before his injury. He's as good a pick at 7 as Reinhart is at 2. Who else was a bad pick?

Yak looked great his rookie year I have no idea what happened after that lol

Other than those two they've been hitting on picks pretty good lately

Holy S, late 80's, Swiss Chalet was a powerhouse. Easily top 3 where I hoped we would go out to eat.
