Obviously our defense is priority number 1 this offseason
And that's good timing...
because depending what it costs to upgrade the defense,
Murray can then budget his Cap as far as keeping Kane or not & how much he can afford to pay him

You cant do a quick rebuild if A) you dont get max return for your existing veterans/short term players B) You dont already have some quality prospects, particulary slower developing defenders, in the system C) are fortunate enough to pick first in quality draft years D) Find gold at least once or twice in the later rounds or E) attract quality free agents.

You've drafted in the top 10 since like 2008 and got awarded the best player since Crosby on top of it...you should have a dynasty by now. If Nurse, Paajarvi and Yak are passed on for the better available players you probably have that today.

Nuge was maybe a miss but would still go top 3 or 4.....any other draft year maybe around 10-15....Yak in hindsight was a seventh round pick...but even still, the best player that draft was either Filip Forseberg or Jacon Trouba...not exactly franchise players.

GM's that people think are smart are mostly lucky. Dumb GM's are dumb for sure and also unlucky. Oilers had a lot of terrible luck to go along with their stupidity. Thankfully they got that luck back in spades a couple lotteries ago.
