Top 5 picks in strong drafts. Seen the likes of fail yakupov or Ryan Murray who's okay but not worthy of 2OA. Or Erik Gudbranson who probably shouldn't have been a 3OA. Erik Johnson isn't #1 worthy.
Story is not every player no matter where they are picked are a for sure guaranteed star player. - manvanfan
I'd take Erik Johnson quality guy out of this top-5 round in a heartbeat. You seem to think the team needs only elite talent. What I think is: we need A LOT of different types of players, we have 8 players to replace (minimum). A top-5 pick gives us the best likelyhood we get one of those types, maybe even two as it gives us a very high 2nd round pick too. There is no logic to "because this is a weaker draft, we shouldn't desire a high pick". It has no reasonable logical argument that can support it, NADA. There is a lot of reason to "we should want a top5 pick in every draft, for the next few years" as literally every team that has won a cup in the last 5 years has several top 5 picks on their roster and not all of them were heralded as the second coming of Gretzky (Kessel for example). It's not the only way, but it's one that clearly has worked for a lot of teams. Because I've hammered this nail so many times, I'm going to stop here. |

I could see Ottawa taking a look at Burr as well. I think this has come up, but what do people think of bringing Lazar back? |

I haven't even been thinking about college UFA's yet. So many other distraction... like Megna on the roster and how Sbisa set us back a generation.

I wouldn't give up anything of significance for Lazar, he is also eligible for the expansion draft so I think it is more likely he moves in the off-season. |

1 assist in 30+ games? Unless the price is next to nothing, than what is the point. Baertschi had 4 assists in 15 games with the flames when he was traded for a 2nd round pick. He had 25 points in 36 games in the AHL that same season. If you are comparing the asking price for the two former 1st round picks, I would imagine you would be looking at a 3rd or a 4th for lazar. |

He is a hybrid between Crosby and Malkin.

I think you're trying to hammer the nail into your own head.
Kessel was traded to a team with 4 top 5 picks on it.
I don't think only elite talent wins. I said in a previous post that you need players from all rounds to pan out to complete a roster.

I'll be surprised if Boeser signs before the regular season is finished.
Carl Neil will likely be signed to a contract or at least a PTO/ATO for Utica.
Edit. Zhukenov as well should get a look at some AHL action. |

You don't bring a kid like that in based on what he has done this year, your trading for a guy you still believe in despite underperforming. In my mind, Burr for him straight across is something I would do. I agree the value is low, could be a steal as he has been much better before this year. |

You've also said in previous posts it doesn't matter where we pick in this draft outside of pick #3, which is what I was referring to because it is stupid argument (big boys insult arguments, not people). Stop insulting me, it's childish. After the second round, specifically the first half of the second round, statistical likelihood of getting a player that plays over 100 games in the show drops off. maximize picks in that range, higher the better (statistically in every draft). See what that is, is making an arguments and supporting it with facts. none is this vague poop and petty little insults. |

Problem is protection. If we acquire Lazar we need to protect him, which means exposing granlund. |
