I've heard both Pierre LeBrun & Bob McKenzie say that their sense is that most contenders are focused on the playoffs and will worry about the expansion draft after. - Marwood
Yeah, that's what i'm saying, plenty of options available and factors to consider down the track, although it makes it less predictable that 'so and so' will definitely be moved at the TDL from an armchair GM pov. |

We were talking about Higgins and comparing him to Hansen, Burrows is as good as gone. Whether its TDL or free agency - WhiteLie
Yeah sorry it looked like the argument that Don sees no value in Burrows. If Burr doesn't get moved at TDL don't be so certain he's not back for another year. At least to start it still is a consideration for the club given the uncertainties. |

The consideration is as follows:
Granlund + (return for Hansen trade) > Hansen?
It's about who you want to lose at the expansion draft. If Hansen is traded for an asset we won't lose anything important. - CanuckDon
Keep Hansen to play with the Sedins and trade Granlund.
Hansen + (return for Grandlund trade) > Granlund |

this is fun.
I vote trade Hansen and Sbisa and keep the younger, cheaper options.
Granlund + return from Hansen trade > Hansen |

There is always the possibility that they trade him before the draft and after the SC finishes but I can't see them getting a better return at that point. - belcherbd
Exactly.

That old (frank) has nothing on the Nerds over at C.A
Anaheim, for instance, has to protect Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler due to their no-movement clauses, but then has four spots left for Rickard Rackell, Jacob Silfverberg, Andrew Cogliano, Antoine Vermette and Jared Boll. Boll is expendable, and Vermette is 34 with just one year left on his contract - he could be a palatable loss,
That isn't the only option either, as Boston, currently tied for the final wild card spot, looks like they could easily afford to protect Hansen as well. The same goes for San Jose and St. Louis, who are both in good positions in their divisions. Then you get to the pure Cup contenders like Pittsburgh and Washington - Whiskey-Tango
Pitts and Chi could also protect. |

Might be true for one season or 2, but beyond that its the other way around. In that time frame the Canucks are still bottom feeders but instead will have another aging roster spot to fill

I only care about not giving away players for peanuts.
1st off somebody has to be willing to trade with us with expansion looming. |

(frank) that, if Benning doesn't make a trade happen, it's on him.

I personally would not extend Hansen beyond next year unless he signs 1.5mil or less. Is he worth it? Yes, but we need to keep getting younger. therefor granlund + return for Hansen > Hansen BIG TIME |

I doubt it. If this season is any indication they will play out their contracts next season and then will be graciously thanked for their contributions on & off the ice. |

thanks for the enlightened opinion.
as per my earlier post, I hope if we do trade Hansen, I hope we get a very good return. At 2.5 mil, Hansen is very fast, great penalty killer, can play on any line and does not complain. Hard to replace that, especially at that cost. |
