I'm kinda tired of the Pens trading their 1st rounders. I would PREFER if the Pens moved a 1st in a hockey trade. - Rinosaur
Like for a guy that is still under contract? |

Hainsey is just too vanilla for me.
Either give me a guy with some upside.....or if you want a 'defensive defenseman' then I want someone with some physicality (a skillset we surely are missing).
I'm not a big fan of this for a 2nd. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Physicality is not a skill set. This is a perfectly fine trade. |

I kinda like this pickup. You have a guy who has never played in the playoffs. The first game of the first round, last years Stanley Cup winners can look down the bench and see a veteran soaking that in. perspective and something to rally around can give a team that extra motivation that will be needed against enthusted teams like CBJ. Washington is the real deal this year, last year they were too cocky, same vibe as 2009. This year they are dangerous, Hainsey will put his face infront of Ovechkins clapper for a chance at the cup.
Bit of a rant, sorry guys. - stackthepads
I'm not big on the "rah rah" stuff so I don't consider that much of a factor. Every player in the NHL should be all out in the playoffs....'extra motivation' need not apply.
Especially after last season, seeing what young energy and fresh legs can bring to the table...I don't like the old rental option nearly as much... |

Im with you on this. F that 2nd round pick, seriously, F it. This vet can now smell Lord Stanely and will pay the price to achieve it. Could be his last chance
Hainsey is a dependable guy. He wont have any flash or much offensive production but he wont make many mistakes either if he's on the bottom pairing and PK. I liked him when he was on the Jets, he was obviously younger then, but I think he could make a little difference if logging around 14/15 mins a night and a staple on the PK.
The Pens PK has been in the bottom 10 ,or close to it anyway, all year. If it gets better it will help win more games. |

That would be what a "hockey trade" is. |

The last time they move a 1st for a rental was the Iginla trade in 2013, in the last 3+ years the only time they have moved a 1st has been in hockey trades for Perron & Kessel, granted the Perron trade didn't work out as well as hoped long term but it was definitely a hockey trade when it was made.

What is you obsession with dumping your turds in our toilet? If Tatar and Green are so awesome why are you so eager to dump them off?

If he is a true fan then he realizes it's time for the wings to rebuild and those 2 have no future in those plans. Trading them now will probably give you the best value now rather than waiting next year. |

He's not worth a 1st IMO... at least to the Pens. |

In Tatar's case I want to legitimately see him get a chance to win a cup in his prime. As for Green he is the most valuable asset that can help in the rebuild. |

Green will get a nice trade offer next tdl. Probably a 1st and maybe a little bit more. If they want to get a good return now they need to eat a lot of salary like the yandle deal. I'm not going to say Green's 6/year is a bad deal, but its not something I see a lot of contenders being able to afford for next year. |

I have much better places to do that but there is nothing to discuss. They are the 3rd worst team in the league. |

He can definitely garner a 1st. I just mean he's not worth a 1st to the Pens. If they retained 25%? Then sure, why not.
They'd be foolish to move him for a 1st this year though with such a thin draft, let alone to a team that will be one of the last teams drafting in the round. |

What are his positives and negatives?
Transition game, skating ability, physical or positional defender? - nelson911
Decent skater, pretty steady, has a good stick.
He can get himself into trouble positionally sometimes but his gap control is excellent. Gets in the faces of opponents in the neutral zone and doesn't make many bad reads.
On the PK he WILL clear the puck the instant it lands on his stick. Doesn't screw around with it. |
|

I still feel like that Stone trade was a precursor to Calgary trading a defenseman... |

I don't think any contender would touch him at 6/year. In a no cap world sure, but not many teams have that kind of cap available. Same thing with Fleury trade. |
