The problem is, going forward, not only are we losing premium assets from the trade itself....we are potentially losing a very valuable roster player in expansion.....AND probably can't re-sign Schultz due to Green's $6M.
Guys like Daley, Fleury, Fehr, Kunitz, etc...may be opening up enough cap space its not an issue. Just so many moving parts to this deal, I'd rather just re-sign Schultz to a cheaper deal and not lose the assets. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Oh I know, the draft (frank)s everything up, and kinda has me up in the air. No draft, I absolutely want Green. with the draft.. I'm up int he air. |

I agree and think BOTH are great fits.. but at what point do you move on and let the young guys take over? - j.boyd919
These young guys need to show their worth first and there's time at least for that to happen.
Guentzel needs to show how he develops over a full season.
Sprong needs to show that he's legit. |

Not true, Chicago shipped off vet after vet and slotted rookies in, without showing their worth... because their CORE was intact and still amazing. |

DET retains 25% and also takes Fehr. Does the draft matter now? |

Yeah... look at Chicago now. They're not close to the team they were two years ago.
You don't want to leave yourself in the old position off "they need to find a winger for Sid." |

Sid and Geno >>>>>>>> Toews and Kane
If anything PIT is in an even better position than CHI to hand the reins over to the young guns. |

Sheary has proven his worth IMO.
Rust has at least shown he's a legit top-nine forward.
Guentzel has a long way to go.
Sprong, while still looks like a good shot, is still a complete unknown.
There's not THAT much youth that Hagelin and/or Hornqvist would be blocking. |

I think you are forgetting that you aren't asking Guentzel, Sprong, and Sundqvist to come in and be your top scorers. You just need 30-40 points from them on average and you will be more than fine. |

That's easier said than done. Guentzel has played all of 22 games and Sprong has played 18. There's nothing to say they can put up 30 to 40 points. These are all assumptions.
Still, there's room...
Sheary-Sid-Sprong/Hornqvist
Hagelin-Geno-Kessel
Guentzel-???/Sundqvist-Sprong/Hornqvist
Kuhnhackl-Sundqvist-Rust
There's room for everyone except maybe Rust.

Guentzel has 12 points in 22 games. Sprong didn't get a chance with a competent coach. Sundqvist would be fine with solid wingers. |

Sounds like Hornqvist is back on the 1st line. Guentz dropped to the 3rd and Kessel up with Malkin. I like it. |

What are you asking for? Sprong? Guentzel? First?
If we're giving up a 1st, a top prospect, Fehr (AND Hagelin or Hornqvist technically because of expansion).....ask yourself if Green is worth that.... |

Very interesting from an outsiders perspective what you guys are saying about Hagelin
I guess his year compared to last years has a lot to do with it, just interesting nonetheless. I will say tho, losing his speed/disruption is tougher to swallow than I think some of you are giving credit for |

Sheary - Sid - Versteeg (cheap UFA)
Guentzel - Malkin - Sprong
Hagelin - Sundqvist - Kessel
Kunitz - Rowney/Wilson/Kuhnhackl/Rust
Dumo - Letang
Maatta - Green
Cole - Schultz |

Guentzel also gets shut down against bigger teams with better lineups. You can look up his game-by-game stats to see this. He has his points and highest shots on goal totals against weaker teams. If he can get stronger is what remains to be seen for me.
Sprong I'm confident of, but I still can't say without a shadow of a doubt that he's going succeed. Playing under MJ was bad for everyone.
You're basing all these "shoulds." |

Green at $4.5M Plus taking Fehr's slightly bad contract.
I'm thinking at least a 1st, DP, B-level guy and a mid round pick. |

Guentzel seems to have performed better on the LW than the RW. Not sure I get why Wilson will play LW over him. |

They're good, but look at their competition this year. If this was the CHI team from two years ago they'd be dominating the west. I expect a first round exit from them this year unless they draw STL in the first round. |
