That's fair. I've been unimpressed with his ability to defend, which he doesn't seem to be getting better at (thus I think it's reasonable to assume this trend will continue). While I have been impressed by Stecher, whom facing better competition than Hutton has done quite a bit better defenisvely. While I agree, breaking the threshold and making it is a big obstacle and we may get a bust by trading him for a 1st, I still think that would be a great trade for us as our GM has drafted very well and is by all accounts very good at drafting/scouting. - neem55
Absolutely, but keep in mind, Hutton was also subject to Benning's so called 'eye for talent' as he essentially advocated (along with the team in general) for the kid to stay on the roster and was also Benning's first young extension.
Clearly, the GM has some faith in his ability to improve as well.
He's looked much better since his return (4 assists in 8 games) and I'm hopeful he takes a big step forward next season.

Do you guys have a bunch of young guys ready to step into the roster next year or something? because you have $55 million already spent and only 8 forwards, 6 D and a goalie under contract for next year. |

It's definitely redundant. Even a little ignorant of what the state of mind is with the club. Playing off some big decision... talking about UFA's like management doesn't want to trade them if possible...
To be honest, this is basically written by about 3 people a day in here...

I can't see anything really happening with Anaheim, unless it's Burrows to reunite with his ol' pals....but again, there are cap issues...
I also think its a bit early to give up on Hutton...he could be Lidster's pet project over the summer to improve this area.
If I had a nickel every time Edler broke a stick or got a shot blocked, I'd be filthy rich. |

Not really, maybe Boeser and Virtanen but you conveniently failed to account for our 7 RFA's lol. |

Okay JB get busy, this fan base needs a change. Expansion draft has thrown a wrench into this tdl unfortunately, typical the canucks timing is off, hopefully we can get a descent return for burrows, hansen, miller and whoever else. |

They still gotta get paid. Bo is going to need a raise at the very least. Dunno about Rodin.
Gaunce can probably stay about the same...
Actually the more I look at it the more I realize most of your RFA's aren't going to get much more than their ELC's right now. |

Franking expansion draft. The Canucks will finish third last overall, which will basically drop us to 4th with Vegas getting third place odds for the 1st round and third place for each consecutive round. |

some guys on here think the Nux can't get any return for anybody... maybe just trade everyone for a 4th or 5th rounder cuz that's what it sounds like some ppl think everyone who plays for the Nux is worth...
personally i think there are decent returns to be had from teams with multiple picks in the early rounds of the next two drafts...
Miller,
Burrows,
Hansen,
Sbisa,
Edler,
Tanev,
Skille,
Sedins, (talk to em' and tell em what they want to hear, and that they'll get traded to a team with a legit shot)
should all be on the trade list... eat salary if need be, just trade for prospects and picks and fill out the roster with legit NHLrs over the summer... or trade some of those picks and prospects to LV for NHLrs after they pick up some players in the expansion draft...
LV will need to stock its cupboard with prospects so they aren't hamstrung in future years...

I think that as a general rule, fans (of all teams) worry about the cap ceiling much more than GMs do.
How many teams over the past few years have actually been in cap trouble? I can't think of more than a few. |

Chicago in perpetuity.
The Wild and Lightning will be this offseason. Maybe Boston.
Detroit has $6 million in space next season (assuming the cap stays flat) and only 15 NHL contracts. That's ugly. |

They sucked long and hard for a long time. It paid off for them in the end, and now they're very slowly being eaten away.
A very significant drop off is coming for them. |

Just chiming in to say, I'm the reason Kris Letang is injured.
I just put him on my hockeybuzz pool roster for next week.
I've picked him twice before, and he got hurt both times and has only played one game while on my team.
Sorry Kris. |

Yes. They deserve your pity.
Three Cups in the last seven years.
I'll bet many thought the third parade was boring.
As a Leafs fan, I'm sure glad I didn't have to take off that much time from work. |
