most of the groundwork for the ROR deal happened around this time and then was finalized at the draft. Its possible he's looking to do something similar.

Kings have recently traded for a LW'er with only 1 year left on his deal

I don't feel like going through all the trades. Vanek was traded from Islanders to Montreal for a pick and Prince. Vanek had over a 7 million cap hit. Moving salary is easy when no term is left. Especially if a team such as the sabres can retain 50% of it.

No I have better things to do than to scroll through trades. Ingila was traded as a rental, Hossa was (multiple times) if I give it more than 30 seconds I am sure I am come up with more. If the player(s) is/are on expiring deals, the hit is not that big of a deal at the deadline. Especially now that teams can retain salary.

Bishop 6 million cap hit, Budaj 600k. It happens all the time. Odds are both Gionta and Franson wont be traded as a package are high (hence why I said i am hoping and praying for it). However to say it can't happen because of salary is a baseless argument.
