Does anyone remember the last time the Sabres had a clean-cut breakaway in a game? Feels like it has been a while.

Ward couldn't believe what just happened on that play...

Staring into the crowd shaking his head.

Realistically I think Kulikov will get one. And if Gionta waives his NMC, I could see (hoping/praying) a package of Franson and Gionta get a second.

I wouldn't even hate moving Gionta with the understanding he is a 1 year deal waiting for him in the offseason.

- Mentalorgasm5

Who has 8mil in Cap space to take both Franson AND Gionta in a package?
That's not very realistic imo

Gionta might get us one on his own, he's played well
A 3rd is certainly possible,
maybe turns into a 2nd if certain conditions are met

Franson can probably get a 3rd as well

Kulikov will definitely get a 2nd, and maybe another piece as well
I've heard him referred to as the #2 defenseman after Shattenkirk

I remember Legwand having quite a few breakaways. And on some, he didn't even get caught

Trading players this far into the season changes their cap hit drastically. And we can retain 50% of their salary.

The change in their Cap hit is still relative
That's a lot for a team to take on,
And almost all Playoff teams are close to the Cap

When's the last time u remember a package of 2 players get traded at the deadline to a playoff team?

I'd say it's probably pretty rare that teams trade for more than one guy unless they ship salary out somehow

No, it makes a big difference trading for a player's salary 68-75 percent of the way into the season, especially when the sabres would be able to retain 50% of both their cap.

They need to make the deadline more of an event. Or on a Friday

Too many guys get moved days before. Do a freeze beforehand

The Sabres do that a bit? Miller and Ott, Moulson and McCormick(?).

Edit: ok, twice recently not "a bit"

Yeah, I get what you're saying

It's still unrealistic, even if we retain salary

Name some times that 2 players who make about 8mil were packaged at the deadline...
I'd bet if it actually did happen,
That team had to move out salary somehow

Miller & Ott... had to take back Halak & Stewart
-I don't know the exact salaries, but my point still stands. StL could not have taken those 2 & just sent us draft picks like Mental suggests by packaging Gionta & Franson

In the Moulson + McCormick deal, we had to take back Torrey Mitchell & his salary to make it work. I think he made a little more than McCormick at the time, so u can basically just cancel those 2 out of the deal...
Basically, we just traded Moulson for two 2nds

Without looking it up, I can think of players that were making 7-8 by themselves being moved on the deadline. Ilya Kovalchuk (no significant salary went to Atlanta) Dion Phaneuf twice. Salary with no term is easy to move at the deadline.

BOTH times Phaneuf was traded there was significant salary that went the other way....

Oduya & his 3.5mil salary was traded out of Nj to Atlanta in the Kovalchuck deal

I'm not trying to be a d!ck here
But what u suggest just doesn't happen
