I wonder if hexy is more interested in keeping the Phantoms in tact for hopefully a long playoff then acquiring draft picks in an average draft class. Let the prospects get a good taste of professional playoff hockey. Just throwing the idea out there |

There are no roster tweaks the Flyers can make?
Seems like teams are throwing conditional 3rd/4th rounder around like candy.
Maybe we are like the ugly girl at the bar. We'll turn pretty around last call when teams are desperate. - J35Bacher
On a serious note, one would think that there are all kinds of things that the Flyers could do to make at least a marginal improvement to this team... and thats what its all about right? Trying to make the team at least a little better at every opportunity?
And, up until the bar closes (3pm for this bar), many things are still possible. |

I still hope Streit is moved for something today, but if he understands how much he has regressed and is interested in signing a low 1 year deal and being a mentor I'm not necessarily against that assuming a few things...
*Delzotto and Shultz are moved today or at least not resigned for next year.
*Hextall is willing to waive Manning to send him to the AHL next year assuming 2 of the kids look good in camp.
That would leave the team with:
Provorov
Gudas
Gostisbehere
MacDonald
Kid #1 (Morin?)
Kid #2 (Hagg? / Sanheim?)
Streit
Streit plays the role of 7th defenseman, with Manning in the AHL ready to be brought back up if more injuries occur. Manning's start this year made me think maybe he could consistently be in the lineup every night as a bottom pairing defenseman on a good team, but based on most of this season, and last season, I think its clear that Manning is truly a borderline NHLer. - pinkfloydfreak
What would Mark Streit be mentoring? He's never won a Cup. He's a defenseman who has never learned to defend. What Streit does well, not every defenseman who steps on the ice can do. Great offensive skill, no question. With this said, the rest of his game isn't great.

I believe that is a factor in who he would be willing to call up. |

TJ Brennan and Andy Miele need that playoff experience |

There will be no flyer trades. Said this days ago.
No one Hextall is willing to trade has enough value to match hextalls perceived value of said players.
Mark Streit has 0 value |

Hearing PHI closing in on extension with P-E Bellemare. Word is two years, $1.45M AAV. I'm a fan.

Clearly critical to resign right now. Unreal |

Well stop the press, please! Radko Gudas, cornerstone of any defense! - SuperSchennBros
Gudas is better at 3/4 than Coburn trying to be a 1/2 and we got a first and 3rd round pic...that is a pretty solid move...It is not that Gudas is the cog of the D, it is that he fills the role he supposed on this roster |

Little higher AAV than I wanted, but the re-signing was expected at some point. |

Well if he resigns he won't be traded as everyone would hope for a UFA. |

Radko Gudas isn't better than Brayden Coburn. Coburn was a top pair defenseman in Philly for just short of a decade. I'm sure his role has shorten in Tampa as he's gotten older but no, Gudas is not better than Coburn. |

Yeah 1.45 is a little high but it's not going to strap them |

It's potentially important to Hextall in that the career AHLers stay on the team to keep the Phantoms talent level high enough to hopefully have a longer playoff run. So guys like Morin, sanheim, hagg, and NAK get that experience. Certainly the Phantoms miss the talent of their 1st line center Wealthy being on the Flyers

Gudas is a very nice player but in comparison to Coburn's body of work, it's not even close. |

too much. Kids in the a can play the same game for less |

Please. Just because he played on the top pair with Kimmo doesn't mean he was as good. Sometimes you get slotted where your deficiencies are masked by the strengths of your partner. |

Coburn also played with much better Flyer teams.
Gudas played with Streit.
Coburn with Timonen and Pronger. |

Gudas as a 3/4 is better than Coburn as a 1/2. Nobody called Coburn a number one defenseman. So where is the point drifting off to? |
