A raise for the goaltender with the worst save % in the league and an extension for a 4th line plug. - PLindbergh31

I may be in the minority with this move, but I'm ok w it. Of all the people pissed over this they're not looking at the term, two years, and money, 2.5. One, its short, giving Stolie a shot, two, it's a traceable contract, three, they HAD to sign one to protect the youngsters in the expansion draft, four, it's a reasonable salary for a capabke back up, and five, if they keep him, he is a serviceable mentor.
I'm not sure this in any way breaks the plan Hexy set, and gives options for any eventuality. |

Hexy has not been very good in the players he has signed and the money\length he has signed players too.

In all seriousness,
I think Stolarz backs up. Lindblom and Morin will start in the NHL. Leier and Laughton will both have 40+ games in the NHL (if not selected by LV). It's make or break for both of them.
Haag will either be traded or be up by mid-year, although there is talk of him being ready now, so he may start with the big club. Sanhiem will be in the AHL for the duration of next season.
Also, you have got Meyers. It's been said that he may be able to make the jump to the NHL by start of next year too.

I just don;t think Neuvirth is a 55-60 game NHL starter. just don't - nastyflyergirl
He can't handle it. The only possibility I see is that he's signed because they need one tender under contract to expose in the ED. If he doesn't get taken then he'll serve as Stollie's backup. If stollie isn't ready, then he'll be the main starter. If he gets hurt then your tandem is Lyon and Stollie. good luck. |

Both deals are short and tradable next trade deadline if needed. |

so can we assume mason is gone and the plan is for stolarz to challenge Neuvirth for the job next year?
I do like Neuvirth, but mason is the better goalie, IMO.
perhaps they think Stolarz is ready to get a real shot and Neuvirth is really more of a backup. - hammarby31
I think the plan is to protect Stolarz, expose Neuvirth, and if necessary roll into next season that way.
UFA prices on goalies and/or Neuvirth getting plucked would obviously result in plan B. Sign a UFA goalie or trade for one |

On the plus side...they haven't resigned Vandevelde yet. That's all I got.
Hextall seems more focused on positioning himself for the expansion draft than getting assets for his impending UFAs.
I do think Streit, MDZ and Mason can still be traded with in the next hour or so. Those are his biggest chips. |

unless Neuvy has a NM, which i doubt, hextall could still move him. there's time. but i can't see why a team would want to do that...rather than just trade for him as a UFA.
i dunno..... - hammarby31
Could it be that they'll go after Bishop? |

BiggE is in the bottom of a bottle and no one can find him.
And Scoob has been designated to find jsaq and punch him in the right buttocks for half a bag of pucks.

According to Ek, Edmonton interested in Mason.
McDavid for Mason would seem legit. |

What are the chances they decide to go super young and potentially have Lyon and Stolarz if Nuevy goes down? Also maybe they bank on Sandstrom coming over? - johm12
They will certainly sign another goalie that is capable of playing in the AHL, and I would expect an NHL caliber goalie if prices are right |

It's a joke. Forget the message it sends to not only keep but give raises to mediocre players. The timing of the deals leads me to believe those 2 had suitors willing to pay some value for them. |

Even if full value isn't met for Streit and Del Zotto, they should still be traded.

Purple drank.
But really both deals aren't anything in the long scheme.
Stolarz will be protected at expansion. Neuvirth and Him compete next season.
Mason has shown he doesn't like being a guy looking over his shoulder. Why have a young guy like Stolarz there knowing the franchise is looking for him to succeed.
That's just my feeling. Also most likely Mason would probably cost more. |

I guess there're going to stick with who they know they take a shot in free agency. I'm on the fence with it. He's serviceable but can't trust him for 60+ starts. |
