well kids like Weal, Leier and laughton are either on the flyers or exposed in waivers assuming none are lost in the expansion draft - nastyflyergirl
Unless they plan on Laughton being 3C (good grief), I don't know what is going on. Weal might leave as a UFA (and if he can get a full time spot on Vegas or something, I hope he does), but Leier and Laughton have to be on the team. Cousins too if he's here. |

I think Coburn was better, but it's not by miles. He was a better puck mover and skated better, Gudas offers a more physical presence on the blue line with a heavier shot. - jmatchett383
I believe it was by miles. Maybe I'm way off base but Brayden Coburn went up the team's top talents every night. Most want to give all the credit to Kimmo Timonen but if this were true, anyone on our roster could do it. Coburn in comparison to Radko Gudas was the better skater, better with the puck and while not as physical as Gudas was still an extremely physical player. Coburn has a great stick with poke checks and wrapping his body around players along the boards.
This is taking nothing away from the deal. This deal that brought Gudas and Konecny here was great. With this said, I'll never understand value Coburn or cop out that he had Timonen. 2008 and 2010 alone, along with many other seasons showed how solid he could be with or without Kimmo.
I thought Coburn's worst season was his last one here next to MacDonald. |

It means PEB is here for 164 more games, probably overplayed as usual, an integral part of PK. Pencil him in at 4C, no young player to be given a chance. Hakstol would (frank) him if it wasn't unethical, so I don't want to hear that the contract isn't much and they don't have to play him. They will. A lot.
No joke, since he's been in the NHL, he is 310/311 players with at least 1500 minutes, in p/60. Actual face punchers like Stoll and Tootoo and McLeod score more than him. He has 6 (frank)ing points in 62 games this year. It is not an upgrade on our bottom 6. Same old song and (frank)ing dance. Recognize the bottom 6 desperately needs upgrades.......and then just trot out the same poop. And then to give him 2 years and a raise yet. A raise for what? - Mononoke

Neuvirth is the worst goalie in the league this year. And got a raise. And 2 years. He can't stay healthy for poop. And he's always been inconsistent. I'm going to be pissed when Mason leaves, if this season was enough to cut ties with him but not Neuvirth apparently. This goes back to Hakstol too I bet. He has always preferred Neuvy over Mason for reasons unknown.
If he didn't knock up Gudas's sister, would he still be here too? Neuvirth is a snake. - Mononoke
One thing we may not know is Mason's demands. I don't see it but maybe he is seeking a long term deal with too much money.
If it simply came down to a choice between Neuvirth and Mason, and they went with Neuvirth that's quite questionable. |

PEB walking would have been addition by subtraction for the team.
He sucks, and a piece of me dies every time I have to watch him kill penalties.
Plus, I'm willing to bet that players significantly better than PEB will be signed for much less on July 1st. - JFlyers00

Mason is not getting that much. I refuse to believe it. Between reputation and his season. If he gets 2 years $3-4 mil per, that might be it. And I'd do that in a heartbeat. |

The expansion draft plays into this though.
I think they believe Stolarz could be ready. But you'll never know until he plays NHL games. If they can move Mason I think you'll see Stoalrz get a good share of games.
Also I wonder now what Mason's psyche could be knowing Neuvirth got a new deal and he'll be an UFA - J35Bacher
I dont think the expansion draft plays into this as much as you think. They HAD to sign someone for the expansion draft, but I doubt they were going into the offseason with no goalies signed. Stolarz still is waiver exempt and literally everything Hextall has said and done up to this point is that he will err on the side of caution.
Mason's psyche doesn't really matter because they made clear what was happening a week ago...didn't affect him last night |

That's what I would expect too. I'll eat a second Lidz store if he is in 5 mill territory (unless it's 1 season)

Seriously, several people who should know better are fast becoming unhinged. I am going to call it Toronto Fan Syndrome. There are certain posters on this board from whom I expect nothing but brain damaged drivel, and then there are certain posters from whom I expect a certain level of.. shall we say.. sagacity. There is a conspicuous lack of context and perspective in the majority of today's posts, and I find it depressing. |

In a bit of defense of Bellemare, how many points can he put up playing 8 minutes per game at ES with a minor leaguer on his left wing. Put him on a line with Leier on the left and some type of FA upgrade on the right and I think he'd probably put up better numbers.
At the end of the day, neither signing bothers me. Both players will be gone by the time this team is contending in 3 or 4 years. |

Nope, I never said Coburn vs Gudas...I said that Gudas fits his 3/4 role better than Coburn as a 1/2...and when you look at the trade, the trade favored the Flyers...you commented that gudas was not/could not be a staple in a well performing D rotation. - JW98FlyerFan
I still 100% disagree with you. Nobody called Coburn a 1/2 defenseman. I'm not even sure why you keep saying it. Most number one defensemen have a compliment partner, regardless of what the depth chart says. Coburn never looked out of place against top lines for other teams, which is why the Flyers kept going back to him. Coburn limited to no time with Pronger. Heck, Coburn saw more time with Grossmann taking on the likes of Crosby and Malkin.
I take nothing away from Coburn who spent just short of a decade on our top pair doing an above average job. |
