worst drafting GM ever - CanuckDon
Very true, but not unique to his tenure. Hasn't there always been one consistent person through all these failed drafts? |

Marwood? Aquilini?
THe best part of the deadline is it certainly seems like he stayed out of hockey ops |

This is what the lineup for next year looks like as of now, course things will undoubtedly change over the summer through trades/FAs, and especially if our 1st rounder can step in right away.
My question is do we really need Gudbranson anymore? I liked the trade at the time but with Tryamkin being younger, cheaper, and a higher potential ceiling do we really need to pay as much as he's going to ask for? I think his rights should be moved at the draft for whatever we can get
That is, unless JB wants to move Tanev and get another top prospect/1st rounder. In that case it makes sense to keep him |

I feel like that's a last resort for Vegas.
Fleury and Bishop are their top two targets. Even options like Darling, Reimer, Grubauer are probably far more appealing to Vegas than Miller. - Lindenis#1
I think it really depends on what others have to offer and the direction they want to go, as they have to take one player from every team.
If youre looking at those other teams, there might be good forwards or D to choose from, Vancouver literally has scraps to offer so getting a vet goalie to mentor a young one (say Subban from BOS) might be a good way to go?
You are right though, if they are going to try to make the playoffs in the first year, there are #1's they could go for. |

They can only acquire picks and unsigned prospects so far, but I agree that they should push Miller towards them as soon as they can. Hell, get WD and a few of the players to rave about his demeanor off ice as a mentor, his knowledge of the game, the invaluable intangibles, etc to prop him up - WhiteLie
If Vegas wants him then they can just wait to sign him as a UFA. If Canucks sign him though does he waive right after to go...? It's a stretch but why not try pre-expansion draft. Worst case they grab him for free at expansion draft or he stays a Nuck for a couple seasons more. |

Didn't really need him last year. Still don't really need him now, especially if his extension is anything in excess of Sbisa dollars.
Its kinda scary to think about the D if Gudbranson didn't get hurt. Tryamkin wouldn't have gotten his shot. |

a 4th for Iginla is an addition by subtraction for sure, but holy hell, how do you put your players through hell for the last month, only to come up with next to nothing. - Codes1087
Probably because he's done and the owner wouldn't let him do anything. |

If I'm Benning and I'm smart, now that Vegas is officially a team, just before the e-Draft I would trade them Miller for a 7th round pick. That way we lose no one, they get their #1 goalie and Miller stays out west. - DariusKnight
Hopefully he can do something like that. |

I was thinking the same thing, they were asking way too much. They are the losers of the deadline IMO - Healthy-Scratch
Break down all the Canadian Franchises at this TDL
Montreal did well with the addition of King/Martinensen/Ott/Benn for pennies and mid round picks.
OTT I would certainly say came out on the losing end with Burrows + Staalberg and a 2nd for Lazar.
EDM just shat the bed and didn't do anything.
CAL getting lazar for a 2nd COULD be a good move IF he turns his poop around, otherwise a pretty high price to pay for a dud.
TOR paid a high price for Boyle with a high 2nd.. and he is a UFA.
I honestly think we did the best considering what we wanted to accomplishment, compared to the other CDN teams.
WPG - Stafford to the bruins for a pick is fine I guess?
I would say that Arizona did the best with the Hanzal trade though. |

Vegas has that open window to sign FA's, which then count as their selection from certain teams. Obviously if he signs there in the summer it wont count. I just was implying they should push the idea into Vegas's head that hes a good vet to have around their room, regardless of how they acquire him |

That's a good point. It'd be interesting to know what both JB the coaching staffs opinion on it would be. If they had to pick between the 2 for a 2nd pairing RD who would they rather have now having seen Trees potential. If it is Tryamkin there's no reason not to move Gudbranson |

Who do you replace Miller with? Do you think Markstrom is ready for #1? - we_are_all_canucks
I think it doesn't matter if Markstrom's ready or not, you don't need him to be as good as Miller, as you're only waiting until Demko's ready in 2 or 3 years anyways and even if Markstrom's not a great starter you can sign a cheap backup for him for a year and then bring Demko up.
Why?
Miller doesn't have another year on his deal so he's not really an expansion draftable player - Lindenis#1
He's a UFA but still property of the Canucks until July 1st, the expansion draft takes place before the actual draft, and the Golden Knights have a window before the expansion draft to exclusively talk to/sign certain UFAs and RFAs before July 1st. By trading him to LV, you at least get something for him and you don't lose anyone in the draft therefore you don't lose anyone to Vegas that you couldn't protect. |

Personally, i think MTL did the worst. They literally have like 2 or 3 top six forwards and decide to acquire another 4th line...
