1yr show me contract is unrealistic

Why? He hasn't proved to be above a bottom pairing dman. Sign Polak or Engelland for a fraction of the price and you get the same player on the ice.

This is "Cole Cassells is our answer to Connor McDavid" level thinking

No it is not . This was a sh1t team with a sh1t style. they are changing it.

Yes, because his pro scouting and evaluation has been above reproach. Just like it was with Eriksson, Dorsett, Sbisa and why he overpaid to get Sutter.
- Lindenis#1

Can't deny he's better at evaluating younger players and prospects than vets. I don't understand why it's so night and day....

Other than Loui hurting us a bit @6m the other contracts r not an encumberance.
Not now nor the future. What is key is how the new wave turns out.

I believe it has a lot to do with the style of play. Three lines play with more speed and a more North south game and then there is the East West line

I like Sbisa, Dorsett and Sutter. Eriksson has sucked so far but at least it's only salary. Anyone else mighty internet GM?

No idea, but that's a much smarter route than forking over any kind of a serious commitment to a guy hasn't proved he's worth it. Couple that with a poor first season here and a season lost to injury with RFA, Gudbranson shouldn't have a lot of leverage.

But agents can be wizards.

I think Ericksson got a lot of goals last year from scrums in front of the net?

Wrong team to hope for that to happen here

If I had to guess, I think the difference is the flexibility a younger player has to changing and improving. They will change their style as recommended to make the NHL and are hungry to improve, whereas the established vets have their routines, preferences and probably have the mindset that they got to where they are doing it their way. I think thats why some veteran's seem to adapt well as they age and others fall quickly

The team is moving forward. People want to pick higher but all you can do is be in position to pick high, and we were... if we fall two spots again, will we go through all the same routine for a year how Benning doesn't know that he needs to draft higher? Playoffs the priority... owner won't let him rebuild... Many of the young players and prospects Benning has traded for in place of picking are pretty comparable to players you would pull out of the 2nd and 3rd rounds... and are succeeding and projecting well now that we are past Vey and done moving picks. People play it off that we are not restocking just because we are not putting years of development and gamble only.

Imagine where we would be if Lefty got his trade he kept pushing for, Edler for Weber. He would be freaking about dumb ass Benning being stuck with that contract. Just like he did with the Sedins and Edler.

- boonerbuck

I don't remember anyone blaming Benning for getting unlucky in the draft.... The gripe is usually that he has gone after " foundational" players via trades and FA and the team is still poopty.

I can't remember the quote exactly but mgmt made it crystal clear that last season they had tried to do both the development and be competitive thing and it was too difficult so that this season they would be straight ahead with the goal of competing.

It failed and luckily failed spectacularly ( so far) and now it looks like the thought process has evolved again to where they have accepted that they do not have enough talent to be competitive.

Out of curiosity, when was Lefty proposing to trade Edler for Weber?

He was the mid-high slot shooter for Boston a lot (on his one timer side too), and then the guy who would move in on a scramble and pick out a loose puck. Definitely hasn't been used the same way here.

It's shocking how much he has underperformed expectations. He does generate lots of chances but he appears to have lost confidence.

Perhaps Benning doesn't know what foundational means?

In Benning speak, Foundational = temporary

It sounds like he does a lot of the scouting for the kids himself, I wonder how much it has to do with him physically doing to scouting for the kids opposed to trusting his team for the vets?

Canucks might want to find him two linemates that play that style if he is sticking around

Leverage = marketplace
He will get a fair contract prolly @5/4.5m is my guess

He's an RFA though. His only real option for leverage is an offersheet, and if another team is willing to do that then you let him walk and take the picks.

1st year in Dallas 19 points.
2nd year 31 points
Years 3-7 63 or more points per season.

1st year in Boston 37 points
2nd year 47 points
3rd year 63.

It surprises me more how many people didn't expect a slow start from him. I didn't think he'd produce as little as he has, but I wasn't expecting 50 points from him

Thats the rub. How you would do that is beyond me.

There were some good signs with the Twins this year, but sadly those were largely once they got into the zone and they never seemed to click in the neutral zone or transition.

I think Eriksson might just be a bit of a sunk cost and hope for better next year situation

Grenier/Rendulic/LaBate/McEneny sent down to the minors, was kind of hoping to give Grenier a shot to finish the year with the canucks

He's also approaching the wrong side of 30, so he might not pull it together much resembling his Boston years. That 2nd year in Boston might be the "upside"

Confidence lost idk maybe an adjustment year is all.
One timers & garbage goals is his style & requires a PP that generates that.
The PP is useless so lets toss out this season & see what next year brings.
These last 20 games we will see new ideas & line combos.
Once all r out of the infirmary the muddy waters will clear up a bit.
