Exactly why there is no reason for any kind of long term big money deal - Lindenis#1
Yeah, if Tanev was given a "prove it" deal before his big contract than EG should be given the same treatment. |

Like I said it is a big gamble, for both sides. Gudbranson has some of those attributes mentioned. Been involved in many arbitration cases over the years (not in hockey) they are always a crap shoot. - Reubenkincade
The only thing he has is games played and the "leadership" checkbox. Everything else goes against him.
The best thing he could probably bring to the table is Brendan Dillon, who makes like 3.3 |

I'm just glad that they're finally past this mentorship stuff. You can find vet role players in free agency every summer, hell some teams will give you a pick or prospect just to take one of their vets - Nucker101
We added a couple mentors... no need for more.

Which is exactly our point, it would be foolish to make a long term contract decision on him based off of this season. - belcherbd
I hearya but he will get paid. What not sure yet.
Going into the next season we have D depth we have not known before.
Even to the point its a logjam. I expect Sbisa to be moved.
The difficulty i have is prolly 2 D need to be moved for a continuance of the rebuild mode we have now embraced. Either that or Utica gets good D as in Stecher the odd man out.
JB has more tough choices & work to do. The players will fight it out for the probable 7 roster spots & its not musical chairs with someone losing out.
Who r the 7 next year most likely to be on the team? |

Jb and Co. really going about addressing one need at a time. Had a gap in prospects, went out and got granlund and baertschi. Had a lack of depth on the back end, obviously addressed to a degree. Lacking in skilled wingers who can score, attempted Rodin and Eriksson has now turned into Goldobin and Dahlen which the latter can play center also. Maybe he is the next Granlund.
What is the next issue to address?
Three years on the only players left from the 2011 team are the Sedin's and Edler.
Heck only 10 players from the 2014 team are left. |

The parade of "mentors" that Edmonton and Buffalo and Arizona have had for years have really stopped those franchises from being losers. |

Next step is just drafting and development, use your picks and stop signing Eriksson's to big contracts. |

not in any specific order than probable depth rankings.
Deal D or ride it out?
Who is the odd man out til playing time is a available?
When is the time to free up spots for competition?
No matter how much i study the D i come to the conclusion we r in a good position yet pine for a trade to add another key piece.
That is up for speculation on how & when to go about it.
After the E-Draft it will help clear the waters or the next TDL even. |

Cody Fransen got 3.3 in arbitration after scoring 33pts and playing 20+ min a night for the leafs.
Michael stone got 4 mil after scoring 36 pts and playing 22+ a night.
Krug signed for 3.4 after 2 seasons of scoring over 10 goals and 40 pts in each year.
All of these were 1 year show me deals. |

I don't really like the idea of just hoping that the youth will learn how to win on their own. I don't mind the occasional Eriksson contract.
I'd actually like to Sign Patrick Marleau to a 1 yr deal next season for under 2 million. Daniel Winnik if can get him for cheap on a shorter term contract. Could really use some help on the PK. |

I think the past 5+ seasons have shown the Canucks need 8+ defenseman to step in at any time. I dont think they quite have the depth to move anyone until such time as OJ can prove he is NHL ready and that Subban/Pedan/McEneny/etc. can potentially be that #8 guy.
I would like to clear space in front of these young guys but reality is almost all still require some sheltering |

This might be the biggest issue for the team. No one on defence is a threat to score, let alone really shoot the puck or make a dangerous play.
Maybe Stecher and Tryamkin develop something. Maybe Hutton gets his mojo back. Maybe Juolevi has more offence than he's shown.
Its probably the big reason why some people are so high on Subban.
The last dangerous offensive Dman was Ehrhoff. |

Any GM who cannot find good veteran mentors is a pretty sad GM.
In Edmonton it was the old Oiler cronies who were the problem.
In the dessert its the constant turmoil & budget that stops them.
In Buffalo its a long running saga but looking brighter. 1 top 4D away maybe. |

A play making Center would certainly be good. Something with a bit more offensive upside then Bo. Auston Matthews would be nice to have.
Once WD stops putting the Sedin's out on the first unit, I wouldn't doubt to that PP % would go up.
Scoring from D will rise when scoring from the offensive rises. Hammer and Edler were getting 30 points a season when the Sedin's were getting 80 plus. Kind of goes hand in hand. |
