You don't consider his 55 game rookie season a success? He's no horvat but that's not bad for a Canuck rookie straight out juniors.
He's a frustrating player but you got to give the kid some credit.
Yes Cody was definitely propped up but what good line mates was jake paired with? - bloatedmosquito
Successful....for an 18 yrs old. But he didn't prove a thing...didn't prove he belonged and his summer booze an cheeseburger fest proves that out. He's you're average dumb millenial teen that thinks he's entitled to everything....while earning none of it. JB knows it and that's why they are leaving him in Utica and forcing him to work for it. No question he has great tools....but that doesn't make you a success in the NHL if you have a soft head to go with it. |

Eriksson should have a better 2nd season as many hope/predict.
the team having a poor season is needed to get a high draft pick, I'm just wondering how the club is going to market it to ticket buyers. how will they spin it? - hillbillydeluxe
The PR dept for the Canucks need to start marketing Horvat as the future Captain and leader and push the Richmond kid Stecher angle. Boeser needs to be pushed in local media and Tryamkin is a PR dream...get that kid out in the public. Lots of opportunity with the new kids coming in.
Ed Willes had an article in the Province about the Sedins whining about losing Burrows and Hansen...their PR value is dropping a bit and it's time to focus solely on Horvat leading this club. |

Vets to teach a couple more kids. Bo isn't ready to take this team already.
Will Goldy require waivers next year? - manvanfan
we need the right vets to teach the kids, and I'm with you on Bo, he doesn't need to be looked at for leadership, but will likely step up anyway.
Good question about Goldy, I'd like to know too. |

It always bothers me, like when people leave the URL and the end of a video or picture copy and paste, when people don't capitalize "God". Just thought I'd get that out there |

I am not making it up. I believe it was in Carol's blog but I am too lazy to go back and look. It is due to changing employers. Hopefully that news is inaccurate and he plays. - CanuckDon
Benning said in his interview that Goldy will play Thursday vs Sharks. |

Holy poop that is so true.
I think I've figured out his problem. He lumps every poster he's battled with into one giant enemy. Accuses us all of the same indiscretions regardless of who actually made them. |

if we are not expected to be in the playoffs, it might be hard to sign good vets to short contracts who know they will be dealt at tdl, hard on players with families.
Marleau could be an interesting signing. I guess it all depends on the makeup of the club.
If we are expecting to lose, I hope we see more grit in the lineup to make it a little more entertaining and protect the kids. - hillbillydeluxe
i think you're generally right but more so with the top tier UFAs. with the mid and especially the utility guys, you can always find bargains.
those guys could look at a bottom feeder (which this team is) as a team that will give them a real shot at playing so they can audition their careers for a longer term deal.
i can see guys who over played their hand in free agency and got left out in the cold and guys wanting to reestablish themselves as being good candidates. however, those guys also are available for a reason... there is a real possibility of suckage. |

Don't worry, he will read through the entire thread and likely respond to your posts 8 hours from now in the new thread - Whiskey-Tango
he's still searching through HB archives to prove that I was a Gillis supporter. The guy is driven I'll give him that. |

I think he's exempt as he's currently only in year one of his three year ELC and has only played 9 NHL games.
edit: 11 games. |

yes... Ecstatic..
Look at the last trade deadlines. Look at the direction of the team. Not only did we get good returns, we finally got an answer to the question that management always ducked to answer. We are now actually rebuilding. When you sell off assets for prospects/picks, on a bad team, you are doing something that we have been asking them to do for 3 years. I don't think its unwarranted to say we are thrilled with what happened, not just who we got in return, but that the direction of the team is actually going and that is a place we (most) can all be happy with. - Codes1087
We've got to get over this obsession with terminology about rebuilding, retooling, etc. Labels are cute and everything, but come on. Enough already. (not aiming this at you Codes, just the fanbase in general and the media morons in particular)
Every team is different and at different stages of improving depending on the players and contracts on the roster for their big club, the prospects they have and where they're at in their development, plus the other assets they have at their disposal to trade for upgrades.
It's not a video game where you achieve the objective and then are rewarded by moving on to the next level. It's a fluid situation with constantly moving targets, problems and parts to the puzzle.
"It's such a relief we're now at Rebuild Level. Won't be long before we win the whole thing".

With respect, the leading scorers in Utica are Grenier and (frank)ing Archibald, both well below a ppg. Nobody is scoring all the much down there lol.
Utica has one of the worst Goals For ratio in the league. - Whiskey-Tango
Exactly....
And the fact that he's played with Hamilton and Bancks pretty much exclusively. Like Northnuck said - he/they're focusing on the complete game and not just scoring, putting up points. I've watched a bunch of Comets games this year and its pretty plain to see. |

The club is going to have to sell the young players, and future, to the fans. Many of the familiar faces are gone or on their way out.
It will be interesting to see how they spin future success while icing a team that isn't expected to make the playoffs.

I am cautiously optimistic while still being realistic. I think what happened in the last 48 hours, should have probably happened when Benning was first hired. Do I think it was an excellent return for Hansen/Burrows? Yes. Do I think management might finally understand that their attempt at "rebuilding on the fly/retooling" was a failed attempt at making the team good while still being competitive? Yes. Do I think we will win a cup in the next 3/4 years? No I don't. I just think it was a very optimistic sign, that maybe, we are finally going to do this shake up properly.
EDIT - and in regards to the labels of retooling/rebuild on the fly. You can't shoot the messenger. These came from Management did they not? Did they not want to label it as a rebuild? What else do you call it lol? |
