I give JB and Booner a hard time but it's obvious that management is doing what it needs to do. JB is using his skill set to fill the cupboards and rely on his development system (which has been surprisingly good) to build NHL players.
I like that.
But to help in the transition and hopefully reduce the accepted eight year timeframe, a few shrewd moves and a few high draft picks would really be encouraging. - bloatedmosquito
What I vision is a very competitive team in 8 years(5 now)... not just the end of an age transition. We are doing that right now. We were doing that last season. There's always going to be a couple of older players on the team for balance, experience etc... and sometimes they turn into tradable assets. Sometimes they walk...
We were in a good position to get Matthews and Liane in the last draft. The position people claim Benning won't put us in. |

Yeah I liked him and thought he had something to give. He was a perfect fit with Rollie, and apparently the guy in Carolina has basically been trying to rebuild his entire style since he got traded which isn't encouraging.
Would have liked it if he stuck around and with Markstrom were the tandem next year. Keep Demko as far away from the NHL as possible until he starts figuring it out. - Lindenis#1
Hansen/Edler/Burrows and the rest of the aging core should have been traded with Lack. The guy is an AHL calibre goalie. |

Plus that leaves the team in 2 years with some sort of
Baertschi-Horvat-Granlund
Goldobin-Sutter-Boeser
And that's really hoping that literally everything goes right in the world. Thats... thats not great.
Its nice to see the team going into a rebuild, but its friggin' far from over. - Lindenis#1
That's looking like a pretty solid core... 1 or 2 Top 5 picks and the Canucks should be competitive very soon.

Its not bad if everyone pans out. Not great either.
But for all we know Baertschi or Granlund could go the way of Raymond. Goldobin could go the way of Nichushkin and Boeser could struggle to find offence the way JV did.
Its why I'm praying that the team doesn't kid themselves and think they can bounce right back for next season. Still need another year of collecting assets before you can even fathom going up. |

They would help sooner than later, but either way we are likely to get a good centre prospect. |

Stop it. That's not true.
The only credit I have given Gillis is that his work has provided some of the future difference makers on this team, namingly horvat. I was right.
But you have used that to suggest I was a huge Gillis supporter ever since. It's ridiculous. I did not like Gillis and you know that's true because I have never supported any Canuck management team ever.
That's my thing for Christ sake. People tell me to let it go all the time but I won't until I see something viable. But I'm a Canuck fan so I've been waiting a long time. - bloatedmosquito
Hmmm...there was no Horvat yet. Interesting

Forgive me for not expecting the ceiling to be hit for every prospect and young player in the system.
Assuming it does is a far better idea. |

The team fell ass backwards into the lottery last year. They talked all summer about how they were a 100pt team and brought in nothing but huge upgrades.
I don't buy any stealth tank theories. |

lol isn't it funny that we have been a bad team with all of the players that you (along with all of the other canucks fans who have weird attachments to players based off of personalities instead of skill and work ethic). The same core I just named off that we should have traded, you are probably one of those fans in favor or keeping, and now that a few years have passed, you STILL can't admit that they should have been dealt. How many years of sucking is it going to take for you to realize.... |

That would do the transition good. Eight years wow. Let's hope not. Either one superstar or a grouping of stars turns up the competitive nexus. Possible a couple years away. There is an amassing of talent occurring. Development can be amazing from sources not hyped. Example Granlund, Sven, Tree and Stecher. More coming. We might get some more looks this season. Good Drafting and superstar still on everyone's wish list. |

I didn't say they all would be. Just that banking on the 2 years from now top 6 that includes all of them being wicked reminds me of all the years of people assuming Raymond-Grabner-Kassian-Gaunce-Hodgson-Jensen would pan out and hence there was no need to try to get more young players. |

I literally thought you were talking about OJ Simpson for some reason.
I think Juolevi will be fine, but people are giving credit for Benning rebuilding last year when he was making win-now moves.
The moves the last few days have been great. But call a spade a spade. |
