Pretty much. The odds those players from the 3rd becoming anything is as close to zero as possible without being zero. Sellers need to wise up, take a stand, and leave the buyers empty handed if they are only offering garbage.

So if you need to buy next year. those 3rd and 4th rd picks can come in handy...

My point is that they're either lotto picks or picks used to get rentals next year if we improve. UFA's leaving gets you zero...if anyone has lottery tickets that they think they won't win on, please give them to me. I will be happy to take my chances.

Them leaving as UFA's doesn't leave you with nothing. It leaves them with $7.5M in cap space for next season, but I understand your point.

"All the other" players? Vanek and Lazar. And Vanek should've gotten more, but he's a rental.

Most guys went for conditional 4ths or less. Iginla went for a conditional 4th plus Colorado kept 50% of his salary.

They would have been better keeping it. A 3rd round pick is crap. Taking a stance in a weak draft sends a stronger value to opposing GMs than taking crap just because crap was offered.
