It was a pretty quiet day overall. Not a lot of movement even in the week leading up like there has been in the past.

Hard to get someone to take your trash. We have a terrible defense and the two players "expected" to move today are part of that terrible defense. Kind of a hard sell, IMO.

That said, I'm still frustrated that Murray literally did nothing today to help improve this team.

- HonkFortheGoose

There was absolutely nothing GMTM could've done today that would've improved the team. The people complaining about not trading Kuli and Franson were crying about Pysyk being traded, female doging about what a horrible signing Okposo was and proclaiming Risto was the next Bobby Orr.

I cant argue that point. Franson had some value but was it a case of TM saying "I will not let my players go for nothing" meaning not a 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th? We will probably never know.
I will still firmly stick to my point of a 5th or 6th is better than letting a UFA walk on a team that will not make the playoffs. I am positive we were offered at least that at some point today

40 yr old Mark Streit got something.

I still think TM held out too long maybe looking for better offer

Sure a little bit, but he didn't trade Kane. Which was big. The only way I'd be ok with trading him is for a top pairing defenseman. And that's a draft move, not a deadline move. And the past few years we've seen the the draft is where the real moves happen. 13 total trades this year. 6 less than last year, 11 less than the year before, and 7 less than the year before that. I think that speaks volumes.

And I bet that GM who is in the playoffs was really taken back by that.
- ImThatGuy

Which is why I said early, all teams selling need to take that stance. I would have been open bringing Vanek, Streit, and Ott here and make a push for the playoffs with the garbage it cost to acquire them.

Bailey O'Reilly Okposo
Kane Eichel Vanek
Foligno Reinhart Gionta
Ott Rodrigues Girgensons
Bench Ennis and Moulson

McCabe Risto
Streit Bogosian
Kulikov Franson
Bench Gorges

And it would have cost us figuratively nothing.

You don't know that.

Plus moving Franson or Kulikov may not improve the team immediately, but if you haven't noticed, our cupboards are getting pretty bare. Getting some sort of draft pick in return for them would have at least been a way of building the reserves back up again.

Question ..... does a player's bonus money come off the salary cap for this year if the team has the necessary cap space or does it automatically come off next years cap?

Also - Las Vegas is still a player in the trade market.

I have no idea if that really means anything, but its an option that might be worth exploring

I've been saying that for a few weeks. I could be convinced to trade him if it was a top 4 guy and a strong D prospect as well, but I'd still be a bit concerned.

I stand by my statement. Non 1st round picks are worthless in the NHL. Google it.

Kulikov and Franson do as well.
- SABRES 89

Not really, especially Kulikov when he comes out and says that no one was biting because of his injury. And if Franson had value he would have been traded, plain and simple. He's shown he's willing to trade guys for 5th and 6th round picks.

A player who has scored 58, 48, and 31 points over the last 3 full seasons (missing only 13 games in 3 years), 31 so far this season, was traded today.

Player
4th round pick
conditional 7th round pick

The return?

4th round pick.

But yes, Franson and Kulikov are worth close to that (each)

Have a good night folks, it's too deep in here for me.

Henrik Lundqvist disagrees.

There's no guarantee any guy makes it, but you can hit on players in later rounds. It happens. The chance is more than the 0 we get for Franson and Kulikov when they walk away at the end of the year.

That isn't how the trade went down though... and they got rid of salary, which was their goal...

No, you're right, I'd rather have a 4th or 5th round pick and acquire the next Brett Murray, Maxwell Willman, or Logan Nelson.

If this is the new value of rentals (which it has been the last few years) A smart GM would be acquiring two to three rentals a year for their 3rd to 6th round picks.

They're not really. They can't take any active NHLers. I suppose after the season they could make a trade for negotiating rights, but that just seems like a waste when they're going to have to take 30 guys anyway. The only trades that are going to happen with Vegas are "I'll give you a 5th, don't take Ullmark."

Sounds like Kulikov was not tradeable, but franson should of been moved for anything because no you lose him for nothing.
