Question ..... does a player's bonus money come off the salary cap for this year if the team has the necessary cap space or does it automatically come off next years cap? - Matthews_Auston
This year. If they don't it deducts from next year's cap. |

A player who has scored 58, 48, and 31 points over the last 3 full seasons (missing only 13 games in 3 years), 31 so far this season, was traded today.
Player
4th round pick
conditional 7th round pick
The return?
4th round pick.
But yes, Franson and Kulikov are worth close to that (each)
Have a good night folks, it's too deep in here for me. - stashu

Was just adding that. 5M for an extra year for a guy with 7 goals this season. |

Bold prediction, both guys will get one year deals from the Sabres. - Wetbandit1
Honestly, I haven't had much issue with Franson this year. He is what he is, and out of the bunch we have, he's not the worst. That said, it's been nice knowing you Cody. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. |

No, you're right, I'd rather have a 4th or 5th round pick and acquire the next Brett Murray, Maxwell Willman, or Logan Nelson.
If this is the new value of rentals (which it has been the last few years) A smart GM would be acquiring two to three rentals a year for their 3rd to 6th round picks. - Mentalorgasm5

Does that not mean a good point producer with term should get a "good" return?
So a good player, who is "guaranteed" to play for your team next year, only got that poop return...yet 2 horrible d-men on the worst team evarrr not getting traded is a failure.
Got it. |

5M dollars per year. 7 goals this year. I'm not sure I would deem VF a "good" player any longer. At his pay, that's nearing cap dump territory. |

If there was 20+ trades today with UFA defensemen going all over the place for mid round picks and Murray couldn't move them, yeah. Failure. But that's not really how it went down. It was majority forwards today. |

I'm having a really hard time understanding the non-moves today. I know the market sucked, but anything is better than losing UFAs for nothing July 1? |

Yeah this is a grand idea. We'll make a comparative list of gems found in the late rounds compared to all the players that never even play 1 NHL game. Hence why the value is next to nothing. Once again, the odds of hitting on that pick are as close to zero without actually equaling zero.
You are coming across as the type who likes to buy a lottery ticket everyday, because well you know, you have a chance to win. |

He's at the age where it's "is he having an off year because he's only playing on the 3rd line?" or is it "he's 32 and the wheels are starting to fall off." Teams are willing to roll the dice for a year for a player who up until this year has been an effective player. ::cough:: Matt Moulson 5 years. |

So, now it's Myers, Lemieux, Armia, Roslovic, 6th for Kane, Kransdorf, Bogo. That's how it works right? |

Ron Hainsey who has never played a playoff game is older and has less points was traded. - ImThatGuy
weren't you talking about things being "fair" or bad comparisons earlier? Yet adding whether a player ever played in the playoffs is a fair add to a comparison???
Yes, Hainsey is the only reason any team he ever played for never made the playoffs. He must be worlds worse than Kulikov and the stud that is Franson |

Yes you track down those 0.00001 percent of people, whereas you can as the millions who waste their money daily on it.
Six points out, we acquire 3 roster players that will improve our roster for garbage picks. The odds of us making the playoffs increase far greater than our odds of hitting on that late round pick.
But darn, we miss out on Greg Sutch and Cedrick Henley. DRATS!!!!! |

Edit I dont believe that was me.
I said it wasnt fair to ask the question of what was offered for those players.
Teams all the time talk about adding playoff experience at the deadline.
That still fails the older and less points than Franson argument. |
