It will be hard to watch this team for the rest of the season.

I just don't see how the D can be fixed this offseason? We really have no ammunition, other than Kane/Reinhart/Nylander. The FA class is sad looking, and besides Guhle we have no one who seems to be anywhere near NHL ready in the D pipeline.

I know I'm the sky is falling guy, but here I am, hopefully overreacting and underestimating GMTM.

I don't think that it is quite as bad as you think. I think we have a top pairing right now and another guy that is a serviceable 4 - 5 in Bogo. Guhle *should* be here. We have a lot of forwards to trade and there is always the free agent market. I still think that Kane is gone before next season and that is another 2 - 3 guy.

We need to draft one, sign one, bring one up and trade one. Get rid of Gorges by any means necessary, sign Alzner, draft Valimaki and bring up Guhle.

Risto, McCabe, Alzner, Bogo, Valimaki and Guhle sounds like a winner to me.

What about their play this year has given that impression?

With the forwards we have + decent goaltending, a good top pair makes us close to a playoff team at the least

I kind of disagree. I don't think we actually have any true top pairing Dman yet, though Risto will be eventually. I am happy that he is playing a ton of minutes and playing well most of the time, but he is not yet, imo, an established top pairing D.

Guhle is intriguing, but unproven. The FA market is garbage, and it is very difficult to trade for an established Dman, let alone a young one.

Sorry if my whining and complaining is annoying, it is my only recourse.

He has, but he's made some really smart moves, too. So he's actually like 50/50. The Kane trade is starting to turn in his favor also.

I think he meant trading the 1st round pick for a Dman at the draft...

think the challenges is still the same. teams may be forced to make tough decisions but once the name is out there you're bidding against several teams and will wind up paying a high price either way.
