This Lightning game has to be the most boring game I've ever watched Jesus

But more than that the respect shown to Gionta will carry weight throughout the league and when it comes to free agency. That one move may have more veteran players putting Buffalo on their list of teams they'll move too.

Are you kidding me?

The (good) players on the team look like they can't wait until they can outta dodge.

Buffalo is a great destination if you are a middling player looking to get big bucks (Leino, Rehger, Bogosian, Moulson, Okposo, O'Reilly). Alright, so the last 2 are a little better than middling, but they are ONLY coming to Buffalo because the Sabres are OVERpaying them. We will NEVER sign a good UFA at fair market value, because they will always have a better option.

You watch. Eichel is going to pull the chute on Buffalo as soon as he is able.

Jesus. Suddenly O'Reilly is a middling player. This sort of defeatest attitude that permeates buffalo is insufferable.

I actually corrected myself and said he's better than middling - although his stats do suggest otherwise this season.

I am merely making the point that regardless of the "respect" GMTM showed Gionta, Buffalo is never going to be a destination for premium UFAs.

Instead, we'll attract the over-the-hill gang on the back 9 of their careers looking for one more payday.

The Sabres are to the NHL what the MLS is to premier European soccer. A place where "name" players can still earn a big salary when they can't cut it on the best teams anymore.

I beg to differ and suggesting that Eichel will Bolt as soon as possible is an unfounded pessimistic point of view. I'd rather be optimistic and wrong than pessimistic and right

I mean... None of our sports teams have really ever done poop-all except the Bills winning a couple AFL championships back in the late 60's and our Lacrosse team that no one cares about because... Lacrosse.

Oh we had some good to great to possibly GOAT players (Hasek is the only GOAT we've had play for a Buffalo team, MAYBE Bruce Smith). But no championships to show.

The Islanders did it in the 80's 4 years in a row with no "star" players.

Sorry, I would like to see a championship before I die. Most likely won't happen. There's a reason a defeatist attitude permeates Buffalo sports culture. It's trash.

Lol, you'd rather have no foresight or ability to brace for future disappointment than an ability to see something bad before it happens?

It's not pessimism. It's realism. Some of us don't sugar coat everything in life.

And there's obviously no point arguing with you on that. "culture of futility" and so on. Why are you then? Honestly, no hostility intended. If you're so sure that everything has been awful here forever and will be forever then stop talking about it. If Buffalo sports are "trash" then walk away and let people who actually enjoy that "trash" have conversations not based upon past failures

F that. that's the oldest line in the world: "I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist." No, you're jaded by failure and unwilling to open yourself up to future disappointment so you protect yourself with negativity. I have zero tolerance for cop outs like that

I might be over exaggerating a bit but I think the Tampa Bay Lightning probably only have 8 shots on net and it's the start of the 3rd lol

Wow. GMTM basically said that the team is a drunk mess in this presser...

Literally said "The coaching staff didn't go out to Colorado and get drunk for 3 days straight... That game was on the players."

- BeadyEyedDouche

How are people drawing that conclusion?

He said it like "It's not like we went and got drunk for 3 days. We worked."

It's more about current failures, going on 20 years for the Bills and... About that long for the Sabres, too. The past failures magnify them.

Listen, I enjoy sports, crazy, I know. I love the local teams. But I have every right to criticize them and if you don't like it, tough poop. Both products are trash until they stop being trash and start being consistently good, which neither of them ever have been. Some Championship losses and making the playoffs every few years are not that.

R E A L I S M.

Pessimism is expecting them to fail miserably for eternity just because. Realism is seeing that they aren't good now and they aren't exactly trending in the right direction, either and they never were to begin with.

I didn't get that from that line. I think he was merely saying the players didn't execute, not that there was a reason why. I think the "drunk" analogy was just one from personal experience.
- buffalofan19

It was projection, plain and simple. A bunch of people here talk about what a lush he is, so the first mention of alcohol and they don't hear the rest.

speaking of farm, TDL is a nice distraction from the fact that it looks as though the sabres AHL team may move.
