I highly doubt that about the Bills. The NFL is an institution and that won't change.
I'm not so sure the Sabres will take a hit either. Their season ticket base didn't really budge when the Sabres went to Portland. - buffalofan19
The Pegulas have been pretty patient in regards to the arena situation in Rochester as well. This is at least the second season they're playing there without a lease agreement and that place does need work. It's definitely way outdated.
With the way that many other cities have lost teams over the past few years because the owners picked them up and moved them elsewhere, the city of Rochester should probably be careful. |

I'll get back off the wagon. Let's say we tank last 4 weeks and can Bylsma. Who's your top choice for new coach? - lulags
I would guess Paul MacLean, Guy Boucher or possibly Kevin Dineen |

perhaps, i was thinking more that he was expecting at least 4th or 5th and getting conditional 6th and 7ths ( which im of the opinion he should have taken anyways). |

I don't know why the city won't just sell the pegulas the arena. It sounds like they're willing to do the work it needs. They just don't want to pay for upgrades as a tenant, which makes sense. Even if Roch loses the revenue from the arena, they'll still collect taxes and the city will get a better arena |

Unless I misunderstood Kaiser's post yesterday, it sounded like the Pegulas already put some money into the arena and are getting frustrated over a grant that's been sitting around for 18 months that the city hasn't used for further improvements. |

I haven't been following the whole situation super close, just knew going into last year that they didn't have a lease anymore and that they were pushing for renovations to be done to the arena.
I believe at one point they actually threatened to move the team to the Arena here or the HarborCenter or something as well to try and get Rochester to do something and nothing ever came of it.
This may actually be the 3rd year they're playing without a lease. But if they really wanted to, they could probably work out some sort of deal where they share the same arena that the Otters play in in Erie (which is definitely in much better condition) and move the team there. Keeps them at approximately the same distance as they are in Rochester. This is by no means me saying I've read or heard anything about that scenario, but from my own standpoint, I could see how it may be a viable option. |

Overall, the City needs to do something with it. Doesn't seem like there's all that many concerts that have even been going there (or at least not as many that pique my interest these days). Probably because the condition of the arena has deteriorated quite a bit.
It's not a bad venue, just needs a bit of TLC. I can understand the Pegulas not wanting to fully foot the bill to do that themselves though, as the space does get used for plenty of other events typically. |

Very close - the City has money but the arena is used as more than just a hockey barn. the fight is whether the City money will be used for hockey or non-hockey improvements.
The Pegulas put a bunch of dough in to improve it as a hockey barn (but not all the improvements they think can be made to the hockey fan experience).
The City is willing to do more improvements but has taken the position that the Pegula's money has made it a pretty good hockey barn, so the City money can be used for other improvements not necessarily related to hockey.
The pegula's think that they should either be reimbursed or that the City/landlord should make the improvements that the pegulas/tenant-issimo is demanding |

We don't get big concerts in Rochester anymore because the arena only holds like 10K - 12K tickets, and the Carrier Dome and KeyBank are only an hour either way. In the summer, FLPC and Darien Lake get the outside shows with the same capacities.
It's actually not a bad arena for its size - nicer than alot of other places where AHL teams play - but it isn't Pegula quality, and i get why they think they should get the same benefit of the free upgrades that the other tenants will get. |
