We need a first overall pick. That would really really help. Despite what dumbass dragon says. - Scooby_Doo
We need a 1st overall when there's a really good, not generational, although that'd be ok too, kid available!!!
As in not RNH. Although I do like RNH. |

Ya....I guess you're right. It's not like I don't appreciate and respect what they've done and meant to the organization, I do, it's just that I sometimes get the sense that Linden asks them if it's "ok" to move forward with a rebuild. - LeftCoaster
I highly doubt Linden said "hey guys, is it ok if I trade Hansen?"
Benning said he sat the Sedin's down out of respect and told them what he was doing. He didn't ask. Nothing wrong here. |

From what's reported by all sides it's more a respect of informing. They are advised of issues. It's actually a good sign that players can mutually respect and dedicate more of themselves to the club. On and off the ice is a balance of issues. Don't want to create a disconnect and toxic atmosphere. |

Does it create animosity in the dressing room though? How about being the NHL pa rep on that team trying to discuss issues while having the team presidents buddies in the room.
Hope that isn't being to narrow-minded for Don's liking.

Personally, the only thing I'd advise them of is that "we're entering a rebuilding phase, this re-tooling and competing thing isn't working, are you in or do you want out".
That'd be the gist of my conversation with them. |

They should see the writing on the wall
It's a pro franchise not a country club. Only guys who deserve that treatment are the Sedins IMO. Wish the Leafs let Sundin retire with them. That upset me a lot. |

Yesterday , was another dimension altogether. That was a weird one.
Who the f*ck is this Toronto leg-humper that has attached itself to us. Shouldn't he be voting Matthews into the HHOF? |

I don't like RNH. Oilers got unlucky with a few of their first overall picks. But they eventually got the right guy.
This year is a good year to get 2-3 overall. Next year same. Year after 1st overall. |

Trevor Linden, in my humble opinion, runs it like it's a ma and pa operation (specifically speaking to his relationship with their long term employee's the Sedins), not a 750 million dollar corporation. The bottom line should be winning, which in turn generates huge revenues. In a cap world you win by building from within, at least as a starting point.
Aquilini inherited a bunch of kids that would turn into one of the better teams in the league, he never had to go through this process, so he hung on for dear life not understanding how he got there.
That's my take on it anyways... |

I agree that there needs to be a more hard line stance from the top down with regards to winning. Linden has definitely been too close to the players still on this team that I believe it clouds his judgement. With very few of his former teammates left, I think a shift will occur
Relationships I think are good, players have complained about being comparable to cattle, so being good to players I think bodes well around the league when players talk to one another. However the team rarely takes a strong stance on moving on from players. Higgins last year was shocking only because they never do something like that... |

Sedins will retire after next season as Canucks. They will go back to Sweden and raise their kids. Maybe play elite league for a couple seasons.
Edler will have one year left, and would then likely accept a trade.
This team is 4-5 years away from being a top tier team again. - Scooby_Doo
3 years away from being 3 years away!!
I'm hoping we see some dividends around the 3 year mark from here though...We have a lot to be excited about with some of the kids coming in...

I would call it Epic. We've had a few meltdowns in here over the years but yesterday was one of the best. |

Just to keep it light in here today
Three dogs were sitting in the waiting room at the vet's when they struck up a conversation.
The Yellow Labrador turned to the Black Labrador and said, " So why are you here?
"I'm a pisser. I piss on everything....the sofa, the curtains, the cat, the kids.
But the final straw was last night when I pissed in the middle of my owner's bed."
The Yellow Lab said, " So what's the vet going to do? "
" Gonna cut my nuts off" came the reply from the Black Lab.
"They reckon it'll calm me down."
The Black Lab then turned to the Yellow Lab and asked " Why are you here? "
The Yellow Lab said, "I'm a digger. I dig under fences, dig up flowers and trees, I dig just for the hell of it. When I'm inside, I dig up the carpets.
But I went over the line last night when I dug a great big hole in owner's couch."
" So what are they going to do to you? " the Black Lab inquired.
" Looks like I'm losing my nuts too," the dejected Yellow Lab said.
The Black Lab then turned to the Great Dane and asked, " Why are you here? "
" I'm a humper," said the Great Dane. "I'll hump anything. I'll hump the cat, a pillow, the table, fence posts, whatever. I want to hump everything I see."
Yesterday my owner had just got out of the shower and was bending down to dry her toes, and I just couldn't help myself.
I hopped on her back and started hammering away."
The Black and the Yellow Labs exchanged a sad glance and said, " So, it's nuts off for you too, huh ?ā
The Great Dane said, ā No, apparently I'm here to get my nails clipped!" |
