I would call it Epic. We've had a few meltdowns in here over the years but yesterday was one of the best.

I don't think mentorship is overblown, its a general lack of talent, currently throughout the organization. There's a ton of teams that have or are about to have a bunch of aging vets with combined expiring contracts eating up 20-30mil of the team cap, LA, Ducks, NYR, Chi - Its not just us, I'm just happy its only a year away from a fresh start.
- Brooks_Light

Look if you are paying a player to be a mentor at 7 million a year and they have low production , that is hard on a franchise. Now double it for the same message and same production seeing there are two of them preaching the same thing. Now triple it because you have Eriksson added to that same message.

It is ridiculous how fans get so attached to mediocrity. One mentor should be able to echo that same message at around five mil a year, no need to spend 35 million on life lessons and bad scoring.

I think the 'shift' is the Aquilinis backing down and letting Benning do what he should have done a couple of years back.

Just to keep it light in here today

Three dogs were sitting in the waiting room at the vet's when they struck up a conversation.

The Yellow Labrador turned to the Black Labrador and said, " So why are you here?

"I'm a pisser. I piss on everything....the sofa, the curtains, the cat, the kids.

But the final straw was last night when I pissed in the middle of my owner's bed."

The Yellow Lab said, " So what's the vet going to do? "

" Gonna cut my nuts off" came the reply from the Black Lab.
"They reckon it'll calm me down."

The Black Lab then turned to the Yellow Lab and asked " Why are you here? "

The Yellow Lab said, "I'm a digger. I dig under fences, dig up flowers and trees, I dig just for the hell of it. When I'm inside, I dig up the carpets.

But I went over the line last night when I dug a great big hole in owner's couch."

" So what are they going to do to you? " the Black Lab inquired.

" Looks like I'm losing my nuts too," the dejected Yellow Lab said.

The Black Lab then turned to the Great Dane and asked, " Why are you here? "

" I'm a humper," said the Great Dane. "I'll hump anything. I'll hump the cat, a pillow, the table, fence posts, whatever. I want to hump everything I see."

Yesterday my owner had just got out of the shower and was bending down to dry her toes, and I just couldn't help myself.

I hopped on her back and started hammering away."

The Black and the Yellow Labs exchanged a sad glance and said, " So, it's nuts off for you too, huh ?”

The Great Dane said, “ No, apparently I'm here to get my nails clipped!"

Kids lines are very important

Mentorship is another way of saying we suck but are locked in under contracts

I am still pissed at WD when the night he formed Bo Sven and JV and they go out and score 9 points so next game he breaks it up and puts Vrbata on there to find his game.

Screw all the old timers

Yes, screw them.

Edit: 9 points! Then you break them up? Stealth tank is the only explanation.

He's got next left on his initial contract, I can see a January termination coming for Mr. Willie D.

WD is one of the few coaches that does not have his top point producer on the top PP unit . As per the 1040

someone will come on here and explain WDs complex coaching style of balance.

And then I'm going to hurt their feelings.

Seems like a bit of a poor distinction. Having already made millions, in what way do they need to be in the NHL?

I don't blame WD but he is not good.

He took a huge kick to the nuts moving out Burrows and Hansen. As you mentioned young players want to play and if the majority of them are sitting while WD plays the decreasing number of vets he will lose the room

Do you have any idea what the lifestyle of a millionaire costs?

If you or I lost half our value in a single year we can recover. If a rich person losses half their value then their whole life changes.

I know it sounds crazy but it's an incredible financial blow to an established vet who losses his job.

Because it's the only life they know, a large majority have a very difficult time readjusting to normal life. Thus they scratch and claw their way to stay in the league as long as they can.

I've even heard it's common that marriages break down or at least struggle when a pro athlete comes home to stay.

It's a huge change for the whole family.

Even journeymen like Gary Valk was pretty open about his struggles, his wife saw him going downhill fast so she got him help!

God love Burrows. Great hockey story.

I would have six Burrows' on my team. Minus the hair pulling. Biting acceptable in the right situations.

I think it gets easier for the long term star NHLers, like Selanne, Lidstrom, etc. just because by the end of their careers they want to spend more time with family, they have made (and presumably saved) lots of money, and they leave with a sense of pride for the whole of their careers. The journeymen or guys who careers are cut short I think feel less adequate after leaving. Go from the high of NHL to normal life is tough adjustment when it wasnt your choice to leave
