Hearing rumours that Edmonton has a choice of the 4th rounders we have so they could opt for the San Jose 4th, which turns into a 1st when San Jose wins the cup.

Pretty good return for Edmonton for Larsen.

- Reubenkincade

Those rumours are incorrect. They get a 5th pick not a 4th.

TSN posting a video rundown of expansion draft exposure for the Canadian teams.

For Vancouver (the shortest list btw) they said Sbisa is a serviceable defenseman, Bachman is not a goalie Vegas would even want, and the two forwards up front (Dorsett and Gaunce) "just simply arent difference makers" adding that Van would like to lose DD's contract

Some followup on what I wrote about the expansion draft in today's blog:

1) Yes, I included the Sedins and Eriksson as being among the seven Canucks players that had played enough to meet the 'games played' threshold of 70 games over the last two years, or 40 games this season. All three ARE required to be protected due to their no-move clauses, unless they specifically give the team permission to waive that clause for purposes of the expansion draft.

2) According to the Cap Friendly Expansion Draft FAQ, forwards must be *under contract* for 2017-18 in order to qualify for exposure.

https://capfriendly.com/expansion-draft-faq

Based on this, only goalies can be RFAs and still count for the exposure criteria. I think the forwards would have to be under contract by the expansion draft date.

Has anyone seen anything definitive that says forwards that are RFAs can qualify for exposure as long as they've been offered a qualifying offer?

3) Also according to the Cap Friendly Expansion Draft FAQ, an injured player who missed the last 60 or more games of the season and has a potentially career-threatening injury does "not meet the criteria set forth by the league in respect to the minimum exposure requirements for players" and could be exempt from the expansion process entirely.

Dorsett's last game this year was on Nov. 17, the Canucks' 18th game of the season, so he'll miss the last 64 games.

I know he's projected to make a full recovery but with something as serious as neck surgery, I wonder if the league will deem him to be ineligible to count as an exposed player?

- Carol Schram

#2 is also what I have read about rfa being qualified
#3 Doubt whether Dorsett will be deemed eligible...we have at least 5 we can qualify offers to.

Also hoping we may get a pick or 2 from a team that needs a forward for their qualifying conditions.

Sit Eriksson in the press bo the rest of the year maybe he will beg to waive
- VANTEL

Even more effective would be to play him with the Sedin's the rest of the season...

incorrect. If SJS win it becomes a 1st and they can no longer choose it. If that was the case JB would have gone for a 5th.

I saw it back last summer, but i remember something saying that a RFA with a QA can be exposed as even though no contract is signed, a contract is a guarantee.

I could see the wheels turning as I was posting this comment. I am sure if it was true, the Lynch mob would've (not would of) returned instantly.

You sure? I actually trust Benning more than Weisbrod, everything I've read about Weisbrod in Calgary has raised red flags. Although I'm sure he had a say in the Shink/Granlund trade which looks very good so far.
- Nucker101

You said that two years ago when you vamoosed also, the team has been doing fine.

The team has dropped in the standings not because of the new people we got but because of the older slower players.

Benning has made some nice deals and improved but a team that has gone through that much change needs time to recover.

I believe they have until June 1st of every year (3 in total) to decide on the fate of the pick.

don't be so anti-social.

it's a picnic. we don't want you sitting by yourself (meaning those two groups aren't mutually exclusive).
