They at least had some NHL experience and were not 19 years old. I'd prefer not to have another JV, McCann experience.
The team unless something drastic happens probably won't be winning again next season. No sense in having him play. |

I don't see it either. I kind of hope not also. Just because I wouldn't mind a couple high end players. |

Not even. Van has a legit goalie prospect and a legit defensive prospect. Oilers had neither for 5 years after their first 1OA. |

I was the other way on that trade. I even defended Granlund's play last season. It wasn't as bad as some were making it sound. I considered Shink a long shot to be an NHLer. He doesn't even seem to be improving in the AHL although he's doing fine down there.
I imagine we trade Granlund down the road. I'm sure the return will be better than what we gave up for him. - boonerbuck
A year later it was definitely a win for Benning. |

They have imo 2 top ten centres in the league, one of them is probably the best hockey player in the world. We don't have that or even close. |

They are one hit away from being bad as we seen last year |

He has his wins and his losses. When you look around the league Benning is at least making moves. Edmonton has gone through how many GM's each one not doing $hit just being poor and getting draft picks. |

Well I'd say that you would have a strong chance at getting some good players when you are at it for 10 years. |

Most teams are just looking for draft picks and that's all they have got. I went back through the trade tracker for past couple season and there isn't a lot of prospects traded. Maybe ones that aren't doing as well like Kassian, Lazar, CoHo. A Shink for Granlund type trade but not many where the prospect is highly rated but still unknown. Probably everyone learned from WSH and trading away Filip Forsberg. |

That trade did annoy me to no end, you don't need to spend those kind of assets to acquire a guy with Gudbranson's skill-set....or lack of.
Water under the bridge now... - LeftCoaster
you were wrong on Sven, wrong on Granlund and you will be wrong on EG |

Could have been Aquilini interference. - Marwood
this excuse is getting old... Management's role in any organization be it sports or otherwise is to take an owner's vision make it work. Aquaman might be putting unrealistic goals in front of these guys but again good management are able to know when to say no that is wrong, you hired me for a reason, let me do my job.
Obviously ownership needs to sign off on the contacts but they are not the one who are choosing the players or dictating the terms etc.
I have a really hard time believing guys like Linden and Benning, successful, competitive athletes, are just going to roll over and say well I didn't agree with the owners on signing Eriksson but I don't want to lose my job so I'm just going to go along with it.
Edit just saw your Devils advocate comment. Fair enough but it gets thrown around a lot here I feel like it is the norm for anything that doesn't look like it is working. |

I don't think so, he's played 340 games in the league, he is what he is. Everyone (generalization) said Tanev was working on his shot, working on his offence, well guess what, he is what he is too. And that's fine, he's very good defensively.
I'm fine with Gudbranson, I just don't like what they used to trade for him. |
