I honestly think that Willie has some structure issues in his coaching style, but I also think he has a team full of suspect talent. So that makes his job that much more challenging.

I think that Willie would be a better coach with better talent, so what I'm saying is Green, Julien, Therrien, Crawford, Wilson etc. would have close to the same success as WD.

Willie will probably be gone next season which will give most here encouragement, but if this is the same lineup, then that encouragement will become calls for another coach to be fired.

I will ask you this, if its all about talent then what about the nyrs in the 90's before the cap came in. $95 M in payroll and they signed every talent they could. STar studded roster....even gretzky. Yet they couldnt even make the playoffs year after year! Everyone said theyd win the cup based on roster. Crash and burn. Yet the talent was there.

I'd also like to point out how certain coaches go team to team yet have the exact same results with a different roster. THats not the team its the coach. scotty bowman for example...BB...Dave tippet....AV

Then we have the pens. Both times they win the cup in recent years its after a coaching change. Same roster that wasnt gonna make playoffs then the change and win a cup. Same players, same talent. When blysma was hired it was mid season even.
Try not to dismiss the role coaches have on the outcome.

Travis Green doesn't like to play the young guys that much to be honest. He has a rep of not using them in tough situations... shelters minutes... probably worse than Willy especially if he'll be a rookie coach under pressure.

The idea that a struggling AHL coach with less than WD's success in the AHL is going to come in here and do better than WD in the NHL is not very realistic.

- boonerbuck

So true. It's all about right fit. If Nucks can find a better fit then WD go for it if it develops the new core better. As for WD it's all old school, earn every second as a D responsible guy from 4th line. Everything else is not viable for a young guy in his book. It is what it is.

JV with Monkey off his back lol.... he's not a mature guy... but well he's just a kid who will learn what it takes. Give it time. His heart seems in the right place. He's not a damaged guy just a spoiled one. But the talent is there to be a great player. That's what we all want.

How about Goldy. First game. Offensive instincts and finish. Goal turns out to be game winner.

Cool customer. Has more of a pro game. Shows Sharks have a great development system.

Now if only Nucks can get there

You got good points. I think the group who do dismiss it is that coaching makes a difference for competitive teams who have talent. That the Nucks as they are now so direft of talent in their eyes so that no coach can make a difference.

Even if one could slightly in their view why bother this team should tank and often for picks. So you see why the coaching arguement is a moot point for them. Others just get frustrated on the lack of entertainment on their comments about WD. They don't believe either coaching would make any difference.

In fact, maybe management agrees as they just let things slide.

I dunno...maybe parking half the team on the bench for the entire third period isn't the greatest strategy? Boys are exhausted and the kings nearly come all the way back
- Bullfrog77

I think Willie was trying to lose in the third unless six guys were all of a sudden hurting and couldn't go more than a few minutes.

Agree, but team doesn't have the pieces on the ice to justify getting a better coach yet.

Scroll down and you can find the highlights from the game. Much better from Jake. Only a goal no assist. Now that Utica is healthy, they are looking better.

wait wait. You have to admit that the right guy wont come along very often. Maybe once every decade. So when he does, you make the change immediately.

so this brings on the question, who is the right coach for the canucks? Is the names from that list available? The guy that can take this group to winning.

personally I dont think its green based on his record in utica. Not so sure there is a slam dunk at the moment. Id say Gallant is a maybe.

Possible hitchcock if hired as a team consultant could handpick a new coach

Lol I did but you have to do a bit of scrolling then click on the highlights. Cassels and Virtanen looked to have a bit of chemistry.

Virtanen was in on almost all good chances last night. The box is full of tools he just needs to use them properly.

I was being totally facetious, the kid is playing his 13th game, and the 1st one with the canucks, his ice time will increase over time, let him learn the team and systems.
