-sweet mustache.
-social worker (like myself).
-seems like a nice dude.
-players want to play for him and have not given up through some hard times.
-he gives players a shot and doesn't mix and match lines every other shift (which we used to complain about with other coaches), aka loyal.

edit. oh. i didn't actually read your question...those are 5 things i like about Willie.

5 things he does 'real well'.

-Gets the team to buy in.
-Creates an atmosphere that allows the youngins to grow/develop.
-Doesn't put the kids in the deep end to sink/swim.
-Doesn't throw players under the bus (See Carolina and Lack).
-trims that stache, real well.

They'll trade them to some team needing to reach the floor or that has cap space...
- kaptaan

Thats a very convenient guess that 2 $8.25m contracts r moved that easily.

If that's the case then AV should still be the coach
- Kaynine

AV never had it hard only had good rosters to use.

AV was a good coach, not great. He was canned to try and jump start the team......that worked out well. We haven't had a better coach since.
- golfingsince

I agree AV was a good coach but the team needed a different voice, it was time for a change.

A 1 trick pony with an inept offense not likely. Sorry

It was, but we're probably in a worse situation because of it.

It's the same as always putting the Sedin's out first PP. Team is 28th in the league, it's not working, so why has it taken 60 games to change that? It shouldn't. He is a players coach, he caters to them.

Don't forget the 164 games the last two seasons before this one

That's what's shaping up. Maybe a Wild or Jackets type team though game breakers are needed.

The team was definitely better but he still had to put the systems and tactics in place for those teams to excel.

He came into Willie's office this morning and said "I got this"

But seriously, it's a back to back and Marky is injured

So he is the answer for this roster. Put in his systems & its all fixed?
He doesn't play the kids.

Well the Torts hiring was a knee jerk reaction from ownership. That was a mistake for sure.

He developed Kesler, Burrows, Hansen, Tanev, etc.

Not too many coaches move in and give the kids free reign. He's a good coach, but no coach can fix this mess.

Wasn't saying that. Van needed a different direction, it was time for AV to go. But I will say AV was quicker to change things up if they weren't working.

He helped but idk about developed them.
Kesler Burrows Hansen were already self driven to succeed.
Free reign he gave to vets.
He's a very good coach in the right circumstances.

he did develop them by coaching most of them in the AHL during the lockout year
