I'm not sure you understand the system, when you're highest possible odds are 20% and you're at 6.7%, you've got a 34% chance at getting the #1 pick. Thems good odds son. - LeftCoaster
I dunno what that means.
Someone is going to get 1st overall, most likely it won't be us.
It is unhelpful to expect, plan or depend on getting high draft picks with a lottery system.
That is all. - dbot
Finishing 3rd last gave us at worst a 6th overall pick, that's a good thing in my books when you're a really poopty team to begin with.
Don't be so negative, they're statistically one of the worst teams in the league right now, anywhere bottom three gives them a good chance to be first overall. Next season will probably be worse than this year. - LeftCoaster[/quote]
Yes Sedin decline and other issues has them statistically at the bottom this season. But the rise of young players and insertion of new ones, plus a healthier D, doesn't mean they take more of a step back next season.
Are you basing next season being worse because of the Sedins? If so are you discounting what the new additions can bring to improve team?
Of course coaching, injuries, development and chemistry of new players will play a role in either a step back or forward in movement.

6th is good, it helps for sure.
But it will not land you that generational talent that is necessary to pull a poopty team (that is building around the draft) out of the basement.

Generational talents aren't there every year, thus they call them "generational". But I'd be more than happy with a Draisaitl and a Tkachuk.

I am aware that gen. talents aren't always available, it's one of the reasons that putting a rebuild strategy based around the draft is flawed...
We have a Draisitl, his name is Bo.
We have OJ and JV, instead of Upchuck.
Nice wish list. So what roster, with players Nucks have now and coming gets you 1st overall to top 5 for 5 more years? Lefty said it's a smart GM that creates a tank roster. So how does that work?
