I think Sergachev was drafted 16 th last year and I know some on here wanted him over OJ and some still do.

Barzal the year before was drafted 16 and we know everyone here loves that kid.

Boeser 23 rd .

It's fine if a person has a reason . I think you are just saying you want a high pick because you are playing the odds without really knowing the facts about the players available.

- VANTEL

You can't get Stamkos, or Tavares, or Matthews, or Toews, or Malkin at 16th....that's my point. I don't know how good any of those top kids will be at the nhl level this year, but some of them will, also, we need to draft high for the next three years imo.

you can get a Kopitar after the top 10 , a Bergeron after the top 30, a Zetterberg when everyone drunk and going home. the draft is unpredictable

the common factor being they're all top Centre's on their respective teams and have 5 stanley cups between them...just saying...draft is unpredictable

Indeed ... MTL picked Subban in the 2nd round (43rd overall).

They also selected Andrei Kostitsyn in the first round, tenth overall.

Only if you're lucky, why not take as much luck out of play as you can?

You mean best player or do you mean a sniper like Stamkos.

Nolan Patrick is my guess for best player, i don't know if he's a sniper or more of a Getzlaf tho.

i think the reason is that, if we believe benning to be a good drafter, we should want him to have the earliest pick in every round (and multiple picks if possible) so that he can get the player he wants. regardless of what round, i want him to have the biggest selection possible so that some other gm doesn't get "lucky" and draft the guy jb wants.

this is in addition to the odds of finding an impact player being statistically higher (based on historical precedence) the higher the pick.

Chych also has played more games/scored more points than OJ/Serg at this point as well in the NHL...

Won't know until later. That Timothy Liljegren would look pretty good beside Juolevi though. He won't be there after 6th.

Drafting high can increase the odds of picking elite talent.
Don't need a GM to do that but a GM who knows talent & finds them after no brainer picks knows his crap. I agree too many ppl harp on a number instead of the big picture.

I don't think you need two stud d like that. Hasn't really worked for Nashville having josi and Subban. I'd rather take a forward at that spot this year.

elite talent is not always cup-winning talent but cup winning teams always have elite talent.

elite talent, statistically speaking, is usually found at the top of the draft.
