Little hope? That's a complete fabrication. I just said top nine picks are great with me, just so happens the majority of great players now a days come from the top positions.
- LeftCoaster

Today you said top 9 , every other day you say top 3 , we both know that .
i understand after our last 2 wins you are hedging your bets a bit

Then why did we pick him?
- Scooby_Doo

Because he's really good? Ryan Suter/Dan Hamhuis good, needs a Weber though.

yes, but if you believe that jb has superior vision, you should want him to have the most picks possible and at the earliest possible position.
- RealityChecker

He uses the picks he has.
Every draft is not loaded with endless amount of quality NHLers.
What i want & what we have r not the same.
What we have is fine unless all the vets r somehow jettisoned i don't see where this excess of draft picks r coming from & why in such a draft thats not deep?

I've never actually believed drafting higher the better is a bad thing.
I just believe the notion sucking to do so makes no sense.
Luck i don't believe in nor rely on it for anything.
I'm all about do what u can with what u have & rise above.

It hasn't gotten them anywhere because Nashville can not and will not spend to the cap. Also, they've been in the playoffs 10 of the last 13 seasons (including this year), and are arguably as good as they've ever been right now.
- neem55

Also, until they got Forsberg, and switched coaches, their whole system was predicated on goaltending and their D and scoring in transition. No elite forwards would have done a lot that way.

The thing about this year if you miss getting your guy at # 5 you can get his clone at 16 or 46

You miss Foote at 9 Hague is there at 16 Rasanen at 46

There aren't really picks slipping through the crack like that these days though, the league has gotten much better at scouting. What is a recent example of this?

The only one I can think of is Gaudreau, who's size and heart were questioned. Even that was 3rd round. There hasn't been a 5th or 6th round superstar drafted in a long time.

- neem55

You're having a rough time with the sarcasm today. Obviously the higher the pick the better the chance at getting a good player. It should go without saying.

Nonis 2 drafts before Gillis where P.White and D.Rahimi, add to that Gillis next 2 drafts were Hodgson and Schroeder , 2 consecutive regimes screwed an 4+ year window of prospects

i don't ever think JB will miss on year of prospects

But that's just it, those are three very different players with very different valuations. To expect the next guy down to 'clone' the pick ten before him is just not an accurate expectation. If we take Middlestadt or Lilgren, who are their "clones"?

Benning is definitely more switched on when it comes to the draft than those two idiots.

I still don't trust the Canucks CHL scouts at all, I hope they draft more from Europe and the NCAA. The CHL track record is pathetic outside out of a couple of guys, and it's mostly the same scouts still employed.

i don't believe that.

i don't want jb to draft his 2nd or 3rd choice in a round.

also, here's the statistical breakdown of success broken down by draft position.
