@bloated
i love that line. totally quote it all the time. second favourite line from that movie. the best line is "you okay?" "nah man, i'm pretty fcuking far from okay."
i guess both lines can describe the team. - RealityChecker
That's a harsh scene. I felt a little uncomfortable in the theatre watching that.
When they pulled out the gimp the people behind us left. |

Good write up.
I agree with what TL said about WD. He's got the guys to buy in, play hard.
The most cited reason for letting a coach go is 'they lost the room' or guys quit on him. So he's got that going for him...
but the 2nd most used reason for letting a coach go is the team 'wanted a new voice or decided to go in a different direction'
i'd give WD 50/50 odds at this point for being here next year. - dbot
It seems to be the case. Plus no one has a viable better upgrade and fit option. So more of the same up for next season |

Move downtown and see if you change your tone. It's a disaster the majority of drivers don't give a sh!t about their passengers and they have zero accountability - CanuckDon
Neither does Uber, when an Uber driver sexually assaults a passenger in the back seat of their car, what does Uber do? Disavow any knowledge of what their drivers do, hide behind the argument that their drivers are just 'independent contractors' and not exactly employees and therefore not liable for anything that happens to passengers. Again, if they make Uber compete fairly with the rest of the taxi services and make the license and train like the taxi drivers do, then yeah, I'd be fine with Uber. But Uber won't go for that because it cuts into their profits and takes away their ability to not be responsible for what their drivers do. |

Vancouver actually has a decent public transit option too.
So much better than here in Auckland.

I feel comfortable that no one will sexually assault me. I would be a poor choice. I do appreciate your concern though Uber will more regulated here and the government are providing funds to the taxi companies in order to make the service more comparable.. Huge victory no matter what side you support |

As Carol said, WD will be in his final year here, so, yes it's 'show me' time.
On a somewhat related note, I saw a headline on sportsnet where Burke said that Treliving was ok with not having a contract for next year.

I travelled around the world and Vancouver is brutal if you don't live near a train. Compared to most major Cities it's a franking joke. Haven't been to Auckland so I'll take your word for it |

Speaking of Sopel, he has a very moving piece on Players' Tribune today, about his battle with dyslexia and how he's trying to make a difference now that his hockey career is over.

How is WD going to 'show me' when his roster's going to be poop again. Wrong time to start doing that.
It's about development and stability. You do that poop with someone who’s coaching an underachieving roster.

Like many on here, not a big Willie fan. He may have gotten the guys to "buy-in" but I can't stand the way he deploys players throughout the line-up. I'd rather see what the future has in store, instead of watching Willie double shift Megna because Willie thinks he can save his job.
A coaching change is the most exciting thing that I'm looking forward to this summer |

That's what i mean, he has to 'show' that he can continue developing the youth and that the team has bought in and is willing to play for him.
If Boucher, Goldy, Granlund, Bo, Sven, Tryamkin and Stetch continue playing and continue playing well, i think that will bode well for Willy.

I hope WD gets through this season and prove he can adapt. He is stubborn as an ox when it comes to veterans. I say don't give him too many veterans to lean on, except for the obvious handful, and force him to prove he can work with youth. Otherwise, just bring TG in. |

I'll always give him credit for getting everyone to work hard for him, the player's clearly like his personality. But he's really not a good strategist.
If the plan is to actually rebuild properly, I'd even consider Bob Hartley. Before I get ripped, here's why:
1) He's not afraid to give young player prominent roles
2) His teams always play with a backbone, something many here are worried that the youth isn't learning to do.
3) His system sucks for possession hockey, but it's more about stretch passes and odd man rushes so it'll be entertaining at least and fits, and the team will still suck enough to get a top pick. Different from cycling the puck that some people are bored of.
4) Fire him when the team is on the upswing again(talent-wise) and bring in a coach with a better system
I know a lot of people will want Gallant, but I'm just throwing another name out there.
Can't believe I'm actually endorsing the hiring of a guy who isn't all about corsi
