Agreed, but I'm in the minority that thinks one of them needs to be a #1

EDIT- or equal to Risto

- sbroads24

I don't think you're in the minority on the bolded above at all.

I think most, if not all, of us agree on that.

Oh, I agree with all this, but, I don't see it happening. I can't see how GMTM is going to get 4 Competent NHL Defensemen on this team next season in place of Kuli/Bogo/Gorges/Franson. That's basically what they need in order to make this work.
- mattsox

If we can wheel and deal to get Vegas to take Bogo off our hands, I'd be happy. Kuli and Franson walk and Georges has to just become our #7
After that he has to FIND 3 NHL level replacements.
We could end up in worse shape defensively than we are now.

Sadly none of this addresses the biggest issue - defense.

So would I rather have Eichel + Laine than Eichel + Kane? Yeah, probably. But all the extra pieces we lost are whatever in the grand scheme and we'd still have a crap record and still have crap at the blueline.

Not sure why everyone thinks that is so much better.

- Phatjohnsn

The whole point is that we weren't trading 2 firsts and several second and third round picks for ultimately 2 guys in Kane and ROR, instead holding on to those picks as well as players traded to be able to shore up the defense NOW.

I get what all of you who feel this way are saying, but would you rather have Pierre-Luc Dubois instead of Matthews or Laine?

The new lottery rule makes evening finishing last a dicey proposition regarding draft position.

- kingcong39

Pierre Luc-Dubois + the assets we moved + additional cap space.

Considering where we are WITH O'Reilly..... it's worth considering

And that is all the difference.

Tell me you wouldn't rather have Laine, Matthews or Patrick instead of ROR and Kane?

Trading for Kane, despite people being for sure about this (crystal ball), didn't "help" us solidify last place. You think having Stafford and Myers at that point would have caused us to miraculously not finish last?

We finish bottom-3 for the last 3 years and we almost for sure end up with one of Matthews or Laine this past draft, Tkuchuk or Puljujarvi at least, draft a plethora of young players all around the age of 20, and STILL go into this season's deadline with Duchene, Landeskog and possibly even ROR as guys to drop this year's 1st and a couple of other picks on, as well as ship off all the guys who we did anyway. And possibly be in the running for Nolan Patrick and co...

Either way, we traded a ton of assets for a couple few guys who made us mediocre instead of bad. Cool. And then signed guys to albatross contracts who will all be over 30 by the time we sniff the playoffs.

- BeadyEyedDouche

This is probably beating a dead horse, but I think you have some right some wrong here. There were other ways to rebuild. Taking a slower approach may very well have put us in a better place. I completely understand that argument...however:

AZ finished 2 points ahead of us if I remember correctly. So I don't think it would have taken anything miraculous at all for us to have Strome right now. The difference between Zac Dalpe and Drew Stafford or Andre Benoit and Myers would almost certainly have meant we would have won 1 or 2 more games. I wouldn't trade Nolan Patrick AND Strome for Eichel, would you?

AND we quite possibly get Strome instead of Eichel
Wtf do u guys keep bring this up?
It's dumb
Of course it would be great if we had Laine or Matthews
But u can literally play that game EVERY year
We weren't trying to be the Oilers & draft in the top3 for over half a decade
The 2 year tank was bad enough
It was time to start getting better
And we are headed in the right direction

How much is TJ Oshie going to get on his next deal and for how long?

He's been a quality player for the Capitals and he's been very good this year (his shooting percentage is outrageous.

Bingo!
Besides... IT'S DONE

Trading for O'Reilly & Lehner aren't the problem
Bogo didn't work out & neither did Kulikov
If they had,
We'd be in the playoffs THIS year
Bump in the road
BIG bump even
But IF Murray can fix the defense this offseason...
and he has a good opportunity to do so imo...
then we are right back on track

It's not how much, but how LONG?
I think he's already 30
I'm not giving him a 7year deal
Really good player though

Here is a question if they ended up with Strome instead of Eichel and still had Myers instead of Kane and Bogo how much more on the hot seat would Murray already be?

Take away Kane ROR Eichel and Bogo and we are left with Strome Luc-Dubois Armia and Myers and a bunch of other junior prospects.

It's pretty clear the Pegula's wanted to speed this up. Murray probably is gone already had he not made those trades

And THIS is why I don't like them as owners. I get wanting to be involved and being "passionate" about the teams but they've obviously had their hands in every purse, pocket and wallet that walks in the building, metaphorically speaking (since they LITERALLY have had their metaphoric hands in our purses, pockets and wallets).

If the Pegula's want to run the show, then everyone else here is a figurehead and those winds will travel across the league.

They want a winner but want it by their terms and don't want to be patient. As long as those #15 jerseys sell for the next 7 years tho...

And we'd probably be freaking out that Murray hasn't done anything to help us get to where we wanna be

No Eichel...
No trades...
Still bad...

That's NOT a scenario I'd sign up for
F that

Agreed.

They have a franchise player one that is elite. Now build around him. Everyone says you need that elite type of player to win in this league well now you have one.

Fix the damn blue line and watch the wins go up by 6 next season

That's a bunch of nonsense
Pegula has made it VERY CLEAR that he wants to win & it's not about the $$$ or selling #15 jerseys
I get being frustrated that we aren't better right now
But you're just making stuff up if u think Pegula bought this team to make $$$

I am pretty sure he stated it in his first presser...if he wants to make money he would go drill another well.

All he had to do to make money was buy the Bills...and he did just that.

If Kulikov & Bogo worked out,
We'd be in the playoffs right NOW

Murray said he wasn't gonna win every trade
All GMs make mistakes

He has a good opportunity to fix the blueline this offseason
The Expansion Draft is great timing for us
And we're set up to take advantage of teams in a tough spot
But if Murray messes up here as well...
then he's probably Toast
